Course objectives

The course aims to address the issues related to the diagnosis and treatment of oral diseases, and in particular aspects of quality of life in relation to Oral Health and prevention, primary, secondary and tertiary of the main oral diseases. They also deepen the different preventive strategies and sciences and oral hygiene techniques applied to the community and to the territory under the protocols of the WHO, with basic knowledge of dental health services.

Course program
Course Overview The course explores the relationship between Quality of Life and Oral Health, focusing on the theoretical and methodological foundations of primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention of the main oral diseases. It examines preventive strategies and oral hygiene sciences and techniques applied both at the individual and community levels, emphasizing health promotion and disease prevention in accordance with the World Health Organization (WHO) protocols. From a didactic perspective, the course aims to develop theoretical knowledge and practical skills for planning, implementing, and evaluating prevention and health education programs, integrating scientific approaches and applied methodologies specific to oral hygiene sciences
Prerequisites
In order to understand the contents of the course and achieve the learning objectives, at the beginning of the teaching activities provided for by the teaching module the student must have the following knowledge: secondary school diploma; knowledge and skills on basic, biological, physical and biochemical sciences. For the exam, we suggest a theoretical deepening already from the beginning of the course attendance. Teaching mode
The teacher delivers the lectures with traditional methods, with audiovisual aids and with scheduling of the lectures as reported on the GOMP Classroom System and published on the CdS website. Teaching method (one or combination of several types chosen by the teacher): 1) Theoretical lessons 2) Seminars of epidemiological and preventive framework of oral pathologies managed by students in small groups with guided debate 3) Seminars on clinical topics 4) Bibliographic review seminars 5) Internship in the clinic 6) E-learning and flipped classroom teaching
Frequency
Following paragraph 5 of the Regulations of the Dental Hygiene School, the student is required to attend educational activities, formal, non-formal, vocational. The frequency is checked by the teachers through signature / updated lists provided by the Academic Office, as established by CCLID. The certificate of mandatory attendance to the teaching course is required to the student to be admitted at the final test.
Exam mode
the overall evaluation consists of a written test common to all the teaching modules, an oral test and a practical test To pass the exam it is necessary to obtain a mark of not less than 18/30 in each module. The student must demonstrate to have acquired a sufficient knowledge of the topics of Preventive Dentistry and Community, Dental Hygiene and Clinical Propaedeutics, a basic knowledge of the topics of Statistical and Epidemiological Methodology and to be able to sustain an anamnestic interview, and perform a basic dental examination. To achieve a score of 30/30 cum laude, the student must instead demonstrate to have acquired an excellent knowledge of all the topics covered during the course, being able to link them in a logical and coherent way. The verification methods are: a) Ongoing evaluation during the internship with supervised documentation of at least one experience b) Evaluation of epidemiological and preventive classification seminars of oral pathologies managed by students in small groups with guided debate c) Final evaluation of the course based on methods and criteria chosen by the teacher (one or more types of evaluation tests, including: oral presentation on a pre-selected topic, presentation and discussion of an internship experience, practical test, oral questioning on the program, etc.)
