Anatomy and Physiology CIRCULATORY SYSTEM The heart: Overview of the cardiovascular system. Components and general properties of blood. Gross and microscopic anatomy of the heart; cardiac muscle and cardiac conduction system; Electrical and contractile activity of the Heart; blood flow, heart sounds and the cardiac cycle; cardiac output Functional anatomy of the heart: the electrocardiogram, blood circulation. Blood vessels and circulation: Gross and microscopic anatomy of the blood vessels; blood pressure, resistance and flow; capillary exchange; venous return and circulatory shock; special circulatory routes: the coronary, brain, skeletal muscles and lungs circulation. The lymphatic system. THE RESPIRATORY SYSTEM. Anatomy of the respiratory system; pulmonary ventilation; gas exchange and transport. Functional anatomy: respiratory volumes and capacities, arterial blood gas, THE URINARY SYSTEM Gross and microscopic anatomy of the kidney. Urine formation: glomerular filtration, tubular reabsorption, secretion, and water conservation. Urine and renal function tests (renal clearance) NERVOUS SYSTEM Overview of the central nervous system: general organization of the spinal cord, hindbrain, midbrain, and forebrain. Ascending sensory and descending motor pathways. Overview of the peripheral nervous system: spinal and cranial nerves Overview of the autonomic nervous system: hearth and respiratory rhythm modulation, vasomotor tone.

Basic knowledge of human anatomy.
