Course program
In this module, students develop the foundational competences to understand, analyze, and apply the methodological principles of Evidence-Based Nursing and nursing research.
Through lectures and guided exercises, they learn to recognize different study designs (qualitative, quantitative, mixed methods), differentiate between primary and secondary research, and situate each design within the evidence hierarchy.
Specific emphasis is placed on formulating research questions using PICO and PCC models and defining inclusion and exclusion criteria, which are essential for rigorous systematic searches.
Students learn to build complex search strings using Boolean operators, filters, and controlled vocabularies (MeSH, CINAHL Headings), and to navigate key biomedical and nursing databases (PubMed, CINAHL, Scopus) independently.
In the second part of this module, students analyze bibliographic record structures (authors, title, abstract, DOI, keywords), evaluate the relevance of selected articles, and organize retrieved data systematically.
