Course program
**LEARNING OBJECTIVES:** - Be able to identify the physical, psychological, and social needs of individuals at different life stages, integrating theoretical knowledge with practical skills. - Be able to act in a manner consistent with nursing concepts and professional principles in care situations defined by the training program and in relation to the responsibilities of their level of training. - Recognize and respect the roles and competencies of themselves and other team members. - Understand the purpose of local health services and be able to assess their response to citizens' primary needs. - Demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with patients and their families. - Conduct a general physical examination of adults based on the activities and theoretical knowledge covered in the first-year courses. - Collect nursing data using the educational chart. - Use terminology that accurately describes nursing problems (NANDA Taxonomy). - Identify, in line with the competencies acquired in the first year, the nursing needs of patients and communities and the related care goals. **KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS EXPECTED** The student should demonstrate the following knowledge and skills: **CARE FOR PATIENT ELIMINATION FUNCTIONS: FECES, URINE, SPUTUM, VOMIT** - Collect, store, and transport samples of urine, feces, sputum for diagnostic tests (chemical-physical, culture, cytology, histology). - Use dipsticks for testing (including testing for glucosuria and ketonuria). - Recognize the main organoleptic characteristics of excretions and secretions. - Use and manage appropriate aids for urinary and fecal incontinence. - Apply diuresis monitoring techniques. - Control fluid balance. - Administer an enema. **PATIENT MOBILIZATION** - Implement techniques to assist the patient in walking. - Use aids useful for patient ambulation. - Perform patient mobilization and positioning in bed and wheelchair. - Conduct simple active and passive mobilization exercises. - Correctly perform bed transfer techniques (towards the edge and headboard). - Correctly transfer from supine to lateral and sitting positions. - Use techniques for transferring between bed/stretcher/chair/wheelchair. - Perform and manage patient transportation on a stretcher or wheelchair and assist with ambulation. **PATIENT FEEDING** - Prepare the patient for meals. - Correctly perform meal administration techniques for low-complexity patients. - Measure weight and height for BMI calculation. **PREVENTION AND TREATMENT OF PRESSURE ULCERS** - Understand and use risk assessment scales for pressure ulcers and falls. - Implement procedures for preventing and treating pressure ulcers. **CHARACTERISTICS AND MONITORING OF VITAL SIGNS** - Measure and record vital signs. - Measure body temperature. - Assess peripheral pulse. - Measure respiratory rate. - Use pulse oximetry. - Measure blood pressure. - Assess pain. **ASSESSMENT AND MEDICAL EXAMINATION** - Use the main IT tools available in the units (admission, transfer, discharge of the patient, stock and pharmacy requests, etc.). - Patient admission during scheduled hospitalization. - Patient assessment (initial, continuous, focused, emergency). - Medical examination: nursing competencies. **PATIENT HYGIENE: COMPLETE AND PARTIAL HYGIENIC CARE** - Make an unoccupied bed. - Make an occupied bed. - Prepare the bed for a post-operative patient. - Bed bath. - Tub or shower bath for the patient. - Oral care for non-self-sufficient individuals. - Hair washing and care. - Care for limbs and nails. - Perineal hygiene. **POST-MORTEM BODY CARE** - Preparing the body after death.
Prerequisites
General Nursing, Nursing Theory, Professional Ethics, Nursing Methodology, Clinical Nursing. Completion of the first-year clinical internship.
