Course program
The first part of the course will introduce the various definitions of Clinical Psychology. The main models and theories in clinical psychology will also be presented, providing a general overview of how psychopathology is conceptualized differently: the psychoanalytic model, the cognitive-behavioral model, the systemic-relational family model, and the humanistic-experiential model. Adaptation and risk factors will be discussed, including all those processes that can challenge, limit, or even seriously disrupt individual, interpersonal, or group adaptation capabilities, or, conversely, that can promote and facilitate optimal conditions for adaptation, health, and well-being. Psychophysiological and psychobiological vulnerability factors will be described. Assessment methods and tools in clinical psychology will be explained, including the main tests used to assess cognitive level, personal and social autonomy, and functioning profiles in individuals with disabilities or other neurodevelopmental disorders. Finally, neurodevelopmental disorders wil be described, specifically autism spectrum disorders, their diagnostic definition, and the main treatment options.
