The module first addresses standardized nursing languages and their operational implications in daily practice, showing how the adoption of shared taxonomies (Standardized Nursing Languages, SNL) enhances the quality of clinical-nursing documentation, the continuity of care, and the measurability of outcomes. It then examines innovative models of care delivery, with particular attention to nurse-led inpatient units (Unità di Degenza Infermieristica, UDI), intermediate care, and the application of Lean organization principles to streamline processes, reduce waste, and increase value for patients. Within this framework, Nursing-Sensitive Outcomes (NSO) are presented as key indicators for assessing the impact of nursing care on clinical and organizational results. The concept of care complexity is subsequently explored by defining its main dimensions and clinical, functional, and social determinants, and by introducing validated tools for its assessment, which are useful to guide personalized care planning. Closely related is the topic of missed nursing care, discussed through the most established interpretive models and available measurement instruments, with the aim of identifying process bottlenecks and feasible prevention strategies. Finally, the module covers the calculation of staffing requirements, outlining the main estimation approaches and sizing methods in relation to patient complexity and levels of care intensity. It also discusses team skill mix, the role of support personnel and the nurse assistant, and the organizational implications for safety, perceived quality, and nursing-sensitive outcomes.
