Course program
The course privileges an ethnometodological, cultural and discoursivist perspective to the study of social interactions in the organizational context, which recognizes to all social agents, including those who appear as most vulnerable such as psychiatric patients, oncological patients or migrant patients, competences and interpretive abilities , which are necessary for mutual comprehension. Within this perspective, a central attention have the concept of cultural mediation, artefacts, language, members’ categories, istitutional identities.
By means of ethnographic methodology in health organizations, the analysis of social interactions and the analysis of cultural artefacts (e.g. writing practices, clinical records) used in various institutions, the course aims to show and discuss the complexity of social actions and organizational cultures in rehabilitation contexts.
Prerequisites
Prerequisites to course attendance are:
- the ability of comprehending written texts and language that refer to theoretical concepts and lexicon proper to the perspectives examined in the course.
- the ability to engage in discussions , to get information through dialogue and questioning, to communicate and discuss one own’s point of view about the data that are object of analysis.
- basic knowledge of the main concepts in social psychology (attitudes,social identity, group)

Teaching mode
The course adopts a varied range of methods, including lectures, analysis and discussion of videorecording and transcription of interactions and organizational practices in group, practices of data analysis and interviews, observations and practices of transcription of interactions, experts’ presentation of research and interventions, regarding the design of socialization practices in educational contexts.
Instructors will create a Moodle page, in order for the students to share texts, material and videos, useful to deepen the topics discussed in the classroom, to promote the sharing of ideas and material among regularly attending students, and to help students perform homework during the course.
Frequency
Course attendance is not compulsory but it is strongly recommended, due to the active and participatory character of the course (particularly as regards its applied sections), which make it a context of learning that radically differs from the simple reading of the recommended texts.
Exam mode
Students will have two options for assessment 1) the oral examination on theoretical contents of the course and 2) a written essay which will target and critically discuss the student's practice in a healthcare context (recommended for those who will attend the course)

A list of additional texts to deepen the concepts discussed in class will be delivered during the course
