The student must demonstrate knowledge of the general principles of the diagnosis of periodontal disease and the clinical signs of recognition of the disease. The course aims to train dental professionals able to adopt specific approaches and protocols necessary for the treatment and care of oral hygiene in patients in developmental age affected by various degrees of disability and who often present severely compromised oral conditions. At the end of the course the student must know the dental problems in pediatric patients and in patients with special needs, with particular attention to treatments for the prevention of periodontal pathology, caries and malocclusions. The student must know the methodology for a correct clinical approach to the problems of the developmental age, and must know how to identify the epidemiological, etiopathogenetic and clinical aspects of systemic diseases by integrating them with the possible clinical manifestations that can manifest themselves in the stomatognathic apparatus.
