Presentation

The protection and restoration of the quality of natural environments, soil conservation, sustainable planning and management of land and resources, environmental modeling, and the interaction between human activities and the environment are key issues in both the Italian and international context, requiring specific and targeted technical knowledge and skills.
The Bachelor’s Degree Program in Environmental Engineering (hereinafter also referred to as CdS, Degree Program) aims to provide the essential elements, with particular emphasis on foundational training and methodological approaches, focused on these topics.
The Degree Program has existed as an individual course at Sapienza University of Rome since 1990 under the name Environmental Engineering. Over the years, it has maintained its areas of expertise and educational objectives while updating and adapting its specific contents to keep pace with technical knowledge development in the field and with the evolving needs of the job market.
Since 2017, the Degree Program has held the European EUR-ACE® label, which certifies the quality of Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree Programs in Engineering that meet European accreditation standards.
The main objective of the Degree Program is therefore to provide a solid multidisciplinary background to fully prepare the professional profile of the Environmental Engineer who, upon completion of the program, will be able to analyze, model, plan, and design—using up-to-date approaches, techniques, and tools—actions and interventions related to environmental and land protection, such as:

  • Management of solid, liquid, and gaseous waste
  • Land planning and management
  • Civil works, structures, infrastructures, networks, systems, and plants, with particular focus on soil defense and environmental protection
  • Management and recycling of raw materials and natural resources
  • Remediation of degraded environmental compartments
  • Environmental monitoring
  • Sustainable mobility and transportation planning

The Degree Program belongs to the class of Civil and Environmental Engineering programs. The level of competence acquired at the end of the three-year program allows graduates to potentially enter the job market. However, the Bachelor’s Degree is primarily designed as a preparatory step toward the LM-35 Master’s Degree in Environmental Engineering.
The program is characterized by the breadth and interdisciplinarity of its training and stands out, compared to other degree programs in the Civil and Environmental Engineering class, for the specific expertise that graduates acquire in environmental issues.
