Course objectives

The aim of the course is provide basic elements of applied thermodynamics, heat transfer, applied acoustics and lighting. At the end of the course, students know basic elements of heat transfer and heat transfer systems, working principles of thermal machines, and control systems of thermo-hygrometric variables and lighting and acoustic quantities

Course program
The aim of the course is provide basic elements of applied thermodynamics, heat transfer, applied acoustics and lighting At the end of the course, students know basic elements of heat transfer and heat transfer systems, working principles of thermal machines, and control systems of thermo-hygrometric variables and lighting and acoustic quantities Thermodynamics Basic concepts. Units and dimensions. Forms of energy and its conservation. Temperature and heat. The first law of the thermodynamics: work and internal energy, energy balances, applications to the closed system. The second law of thermodynamics: statements and the principle of increase of entropy. The open system: control volume, conservation of mass. Macroscopic properties of pure substances: diagram and equations of state. Thermodynamic cycles. Heat transfer Conduction: the Fourier's law. Thermal properties of matter. Steady-state conduction: thermal resistance, composite wall, radial system. Convection: the transfer equations. Laminar and turbulent flow, the boundary layer, the dimensionless parameters. Free and forced convection. Radiation: processes and properties, the black body. Multimode heat transfer. The overall heat transfer coefficient. Acoustics Frequency spectrum and bandwidths; acoustic comfort; building acoustics, sound insulation Lighting Frequency spectrum and bandwidths; visual comfort lighting systems

Basic knowledge of mathematical analysis, geometry and physics
