Introduction to measurement: purpose, features and performance of the measurement; terminology (VIM); guide to the production of a measure. International System: unit of measurement and SI; standards of time, voltage, resistance, inductance and capacity, the Italian accreditation body ACCREDIA, LAT centers (accredited calibration laboratories) and traceability. Evaluation of uncertainty: notes on the theory of errors and main definitions (GUM); category A and category B uncertainty, indirect measures, combined and extended uncertainty. Measurement methods: voltamperometric, potentiometric, bridge, projection. Instrumentation: notes on electromechanical instrumentation (principle of operation and implementation schemes), current and voltage transformers (CT and VT). Electronic instrumentation: analog and digital oscilloscope (theory, operating principle and solutions embodiments); digital multimeters. Digital measuring systems: digital measuring chain; notes on the sensors, conditioning (amplification, filtering), notes on interfacing systems, using acquisition cards, basic signal processing techniques. Arduino-based microcontroller systems for sensors management. Software: LabVIEW and Office for Acquisition, Processing and Presentation some data. Applications: Voltage, current and power measurements in electrical systems. Verifications of calibration of the instrumentation. Acquisition of physical quantities with Arduino. All course activities are managed via the site on the platform of e-learning at: https://elearning.uniroma1.it/login/index.php Students can access the platform using the credentials used for Infostud. Prerequisites
Good knowledge of electrical topics.
Books
Pdf files available on the course website.
Teaching mode
Theoretical lessons in classroom. Practical experiments in laboratory.
Frequency
The course does not require attendance. Attendance of the course is recommended, which includes, in addition to theoretical lessons, participatory numerical exercises in the classroom and group activities in the laboratory.
Exam mode
To pass the exam it is necessary to perform three tests; a written test, a practice and an oral one. In the written test, 10 questions concerning the main topics of the course must be answered exhaustively but concisely. In the practical test you have to create a simple program in LabVIEW that meets certain requirements. During the oral exam, students must answer a question regarding one of the topics in the course programme.
Lesson mode
Theoretical lessons in classroom. Practical experiments in laboratory.
