Degree programme choice orientation

The SOrT is Sapienza’s integrated orientation service. It has a central office located on the Main Campus and several desks within the Faculties. At the SOrT, students can find specific information about Faculties and Degree Programmes and receive support in making informed choices. The central office and Faculty staff coordinate incoming orientation and tutoring projects and provide information on the course catalogue and administrative procedures for admission to Degree Programmes.
Orientation initiatives and projects
1. Open Days at Sapienza
This annual event, held on the Main Campus, is the most important initiative dedicated mainly to new students. During the three orientation days, visitors can meet academic staff and students, receive information and attend presentations in the Aula Magna illustrating the educational offer of all the University’s Faculties.
The event is aimed at anyone intending to enrol in Bachelor’s Degrees, Single‑Cycle Master’s Degrees and Master’s Degrees at Sapienza, with particular attention to students in the final years of upper secondary school.
It offers an opportunity to discover Sapienza, its educational offer, study and cultural spaces, meeting places and the many services available to students (libraries and study rooms, museums, student residences, sports facilities, University theatre).
In addition to information on teaching activities, participants can receive guidance on administrative procedures for enrolment and information on calls for admission tests, both in person and through virtual stands.
To promote inclusive environments and access to university education, the Office for Students with Disabilities and Specific Learning Difficulties provides support for managing academic careers through personalised study plans and dedicated educational, financial or logistical assistance for students in vulnerable conditions. It also offers guidance on the procedures required to request support and on the clinical certificates that may be submitted.
2. Sapienza Orientation Portal
To support students in choosing their Degree Programme, the University has created an online portal (https://orientamento.uniroma1.it/index.html) that offers an immersive preview of university life. Users can explore the campus, classrooms, laboratories, libraries, the theatre and spaces dedicated to music and sport through videos and interactive images. They can also access online learning modules on key subjects and assess or improve their preparation for admission tests and knowledge assessments.
The portal is the main access point for information on orientation events organised throughout the year by Faculties and Departments. It hosts video presentations of Faculties and Bachelor’s Degrees, Single‑Cycle Master’s Degrees and Master’s Degrees, including newly established programmes. All orientation initiatives are promoted via the University’s social media channels to reach the widest possible audience of interested students.
3. Self‑assessment tools
Developed by Sapienza experts and scientifically tested:
a. Know Yourself: a tool that supports decision‑making when choosing a study path. When completed, it provides a personality profile, an academic profile and a professional profile.
b. Me and the Others: a tool that measures soft skills, which are relevant for social and professional integration.
4. Orientation events
The page https://www.uniroma1.it/it/node/347362 provides a chronological list of all orientation events organised by the University, Faculties, Departments and Degree Programme Boards.
The University supports students with disabilities and Specific Learning Difficulties during the delicate process of orientation, assessment and selection for admission.
The Office for Students with Disabilities and Specific Learning Difficulties evaluates the need for personalised measures for admission tests based on the certificates submitted by students.
Applicants with disabilities may request compensatory measures (such as a dedicated room, extra time, reader, assistant, LIS interpreter or calculator) following the procedures outlined in the admission calls.
The Office also provides support for newly enrolled students in vulnerable conditions, assisted by specialised tutors, peer tutors and LIS interpreters.
Degree Programme Board activities
The ICI Faculty organises annual orientation events designed to guide upper secondary school students in choosing their academic and professional path. These activities, held both online and in person, allow prospective students to meet academic staff, learn about the Degree Programmes, explore research opportunities, understand career prospects and become familiar with laboratory practices.
Among the main initiatives is the OpenICI event, which includes an in‑person presentation of the Degree Programmes and subsequent online meetings dedicated to each Programme. This offers an opportunity to explore study paths in detail, meet lecturers and ask questions.
Other orientation activities include Class Training, where doctoral students and project teams present their ongoing work, with the aim of motivating students to pursue engineering studies.
The Faculty also organises Ingegneria INforma, a series of meetings explaining enrolment procedures and providing students with the information needed to approach them with confidence and preparation.
These events are designed to provide concrete support to students, helping them make informed choices and integrate easily into the academic environment, building a solid network of contacts and resources from the outset.
In addition to the initiatives promoted by the University and the Faculty, the Degree Programme Board organises the annual OPEN DAY Sapienza event in Rieti. All upper secondary schools of Rieti, the Province and other potentially interested areas are invited to Palazzo Aluffi to attend presentations of Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree Programmes, including information on learning objectives, teaching organisation and career opportunities.
During the interview for the assessment of requirements, students receive an overview of the Degree Programme, teaching organisation, examination procedures and all other useful information to begin their studies in the most informed and effective way.
Prospective students may also contact the SOrT office using the details provided on the Degree Programme website and on the Faculty and SOrT webpages.
The Sapienza Orientation Portal (also available in English) offers an immersive preview of university life through videos and photos of the facilities, including the video presentation of the Degree Programme: https://youtu.be/OdUfHw2GZC4.
