Educational objectives

The course aims to introduce the basic concepts of geothermal energy and the types of plants. The primary objective is to train students and enable them to get to know the types of plants and their possible utilization as a function of the types of resources available. It will address both the issues of exploratory nature is productive.

Wind electricity generation increased from 14.9 TWh in 2013 to 15.2 TWh in 2014, corresponding to about 4.9% of total electricity demand on the Italian system.
The specific objectives of the course are to teach and provide the necessary knowledge on wind source and technology, making the students able to :
- have a good understanding of the physical quantities characterizing the operation of the technology
- have a good understanding of the different components and types of wind turbine and the most important parameters necessary for the sizing of such technology
- use the necessary tools for the appropriate design and modelling of wind turbines
develop a good understanding regarding the current situation of the technology, the market, the regulation and the standards.

The course is addressed to the students of the master degree of Energy Engineering and aims at providing basic knowledge of the electrical system of production, transmission and distribution of electrical energy.
The student will acquire knowledge on the operation in normal steady state and short-circuit behaviour of the transmission, subtransmission and distribution electric networks; neutral operation of the three-phase power networks, designing and verifying of LV/MV/HV lines, MV/LV networks and their protection; elements of electrical safety.

The course focuses on the approach adopted in the nuclear field for safety analysis and related legislation.

It aims to transmit the basic knowledge for the design and multidisciplinary verification of complex systems, with application to the safety systems of nuclear power plants and hints to other plant auxiliaries. The typical solutions of third generation BWR and PWR will be addressed and then the solutions designed for fourth generation liquid metal reactors, SMR reactors and future nuclear fusion plants will be addressed, with hints on the issue of decommissioning and management of radioactive waste.

Numerical exercises will also be carried out aimed at acquiring the basic skills relating to the use of system and integral codes, through application examples of deterministic transient analysis.
