Graduate
The Master’s Degree programme is completed with a final examination in which students have the opportunity to address a relevant topic specific to Environmental Engineering, applying the knowledge and skills they have acquired. The final examination represents an individual educational experience at the conclusion of the study programme and consists of the preparation of an original dissertation under the supervision of a faculty member of the Environmental Engineering Teaching Board (CAD).
The subject and type of the dissertation are assigned by the supervisor chosen by the student, within the fields covered by the Degree Programme. The final examination concerns the application of innovative methodologies to the solution of specific, often complex, problems, under the guidance of one or more faculty members and, in many cases, with the support of an external tutor.
The final dissertation provides students with the opportunity to develop skills in the analysis and independent processing of information, acquired both through bibliographic research and through the application of quantitative methods learned during their studies. It also allows them to gain experience in presenting a technical-scientific topic in public, thereby consolidating their communication and professional skills.
Through the preparation of the final dissertation, graduating students acquire both the independence of judgment required for the critical evaluation of theoretical information, experimental data, or model results, and the communication skills necessary to present and discuss their thesis work before the Examination Committee of experts.
For information on the Thesis, students can contact the Teaching Referent, Mrs. Roberta Cannata: e-mail: roberta.cannata@uniroma1.it
Thesis assignment
The topic of the thesis is assigned to the student by filling the THESIS ASSIGNMENT FORM, signed by the student, the Supervisor and the Co-Supervisor (if any) of the Thesis and sent to the Chair of the Programme.
Graduation application
Applications for graduation must be completed ONLINE on Infostud (Instructions for ONLINE Graduation Application), according to the deadlines indicated in the Reminder for graduating students.
Graduation sessions
The Degree Sessions will take place according to the Calendar of the Faculty of Civil and Industrial Engineering.
Final score
The final score is attributed according to the Criteria approved by the Board.
Registration of 1 CFU for AAF1147 - OTHER USEFUL SKILLS FOR INCLUSION IN THE WORLD OF WORK
The registration of this CFU will be completed close to the Graduation session only for graduating students. Students can submit the Graduation application even if this CFU has not been registered yet. The credit is acquired with the completion of the activities related to the Thesis project. Only students already booked for the Graduation session are invited to register for the exam sessions scheduled on INFOSTUD by the President of the Board.

- WASTE MANAGEMENT and ROLE IN CLIMATE CHANGE (prof. Polettini).
Please contact the instructors of the individual courses for tutoring services.
Path of excellence
The Board annually opens the applications for Honours Programmes (both for B.Sc. and M.Sc. courses) to enhance the training of high-level students interested in in-depth methodological and applicative insights on scientific research in Environmental Engineering.
The path consists of advanced tasks aimed at enhancing the skills of students who, during the first year, have proven to be at a high-level.
Access to Honours Programmes is provided upon application by the interested students on the single Faculty calls, published annually. The calls specify the selection criteria, the number of available positions, as well as the intermediate and final verification methods.
In addition to the degree (which must be achieved within the duration of the programme), students who have successfully completed the Honours Programme will receive a certificate that will be recorded in their academic career. Together with this certification, the University awards students who have successfully completed the Honours Programme, a prize equal to the amount of the fees paid in the last year of the course, net of the single contribution and the regional tax.

Job Orientation
Sapienza’s Career Service supports students and graduates in the delicate transition from university to the world of work, offering a wide range of services, including:
- assistance and information on the services provided;
- individual career guidance sessions;
- CV review;
- training catalogue for career guidance and employability development;
- partnership agreements with companies for the implementation of placement and career guidance initiatives;
- reserved selection processes;
- organization of recruiting and career guidance events;
- organization of Career Days.
Job placement is facilitated through specific activities organized by the Career Service and/or by Faculties and other University structures, often in collaboration with companies, public or private external bodies, and professional associations.
Career guidance activities may include seminars, workshops, and thematic events on career orientation, transversal skills, and career management skills (e.g., soft skills, CV writing, job search strategies, video CVs, social networking, Employability Lab, etc.).
To foster connections with companies and organizations, the Career Service organizes Recruiting Days, Career Days, Testimonial Days, company presentations, company visits, assessment sessions, business games, mentoring programmes, and other placement-related initiatives, including those involving Alumni and corporate mentorship programmes. These events can take place either online or in person and are aimed at matching the most suitable profiles with the professional opportunities offered by employers.
Students and graduates can also attend seminars, workshops, and thematic events dedicated to placement (e.g., innovation, start-ups, business incubation, career-focused sessions, Innovation Camps, etc.).
Through the JobTeaser Sapienza online platform, students and graduates can:
- create and customize their CV;
- apply for job opportunities matching their academic profile;
- consult the list of companies and associations registered on the platform and contact them directly;
- register for recruiting events, company presentations, and Career Days.
Each year, the Career Service organizes the University-wide Career Day, dedicated to students and graduates from all eleven Sapienza Faculties, as well as several thematic or Faculty-specific Career Days, such as: Career Day for Humanities and Social Sciences; Career Day for Economics and Law; Career Day for STEM disciplines.
All services, event schedules, and opportunities dedicated to students and graduates are published on the University website at the following page:
