INTERNET

Course objectives

The main objectives of the class are the following: knowledge on the classification of the telecommunication networks and services; skills in dimensioning of the physical resources in a TLC network; skills in identifying a communication architectures and a network service suitable to satisfy the Quality of Service requirements; knowledge on local area network; knowledge about the Internet network; skills in configuring an Internet network. The exam consists in written, oral and laboratory tests allowing the evaluation of critical, judgment communication, study skills acquired by the student.

ASSESSMENT TOOLS The written exam lasts 2 hours and it is composed by two parts: 1.1 twenty multiple choice questions 1.2 Two exercise about the dimensioning and performance evaluation of network telecommunications and the configuration of an Internet Network The written exam is passed if the two conditions are true: i) correct solutions are given to 66% of answers to open questions; ii) a positive evaluation is achieved for the exercises. The oral exam consists in two questions about the Telecommunication Networks and Internet. ASSESSMENT METHODS Examination of knowledge on the classification of the telecommunication networks and services; examination of skills in dimensioning of the physical resources in a TLC network; examination of skills in identifying a communication architectures and a network service suitable to satisfy the Quality of Service requirements; examination of knowledge on local area network; examination of knowledge about the Internet network. EVALUATION CRITERIA The written and oral tests have a weighting of 2/3 and 1/3 respectively in the final assessment. For each topic (thirty points based rating): sufficient knowledge (rating from 18 to 20); average knowledge (rating from 21 to 23); skills in sufficiently applying the knowledge (rating from 24 to 25); good skills in applying the knowledge (rating from 27 to 28); excellent skills in applying the knowledge (rating from 29 to 30 with honors).
