Course objectives

OBJECTIVES. The course gives the key knowledge and competences of industrial production systems through their classification, the definition of organizational models, the identification of design and managerial problems. The course has a main focus on the characteristics elements of the feasibility studies of industrial plants. EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES. Knowledge and understanding: Knowledge of phases in the life cycle of an industrial plant, of the core processes in designing the production system, of the main elements and methods of the feasibility study. Capability: Capacity to develop analysis, model problems and identify best techniques to solve of the main characteristics problems of feasibility studies of industrial plants, combining both technical and economical elements.

Program - Frequency - Exams

Course program
The course unit consists of 60 hours duration, with lectures and exercises, for a total of 6 ECTS. Arguments of the teaching module are the following. The industrial engineering system producing value, the industrial context, location studies, performances measures, industrial process and description, engineering phase in production, layout study and design of process, product, hybrid, and fixed position, inventories, plant services and utilities.

Exam mode
The objective of the exam is to assess the achievement level of the expected learning outcomes. The exam consists of an oral interview to test the level of knowledge of the course topics and assess both the ability to expose the topics, and the ability to link different course topics. To achieve a score of 30/30 cum laude, the student must demonstrate excellent knowledge of all the topics in the module, being able to link those in a logical and coherent way, also through examples of application, and correct application of numerical cases.
