Apprenticeship

Internship assignment and graduation application
The Internship
The Bachelor’s degree program includes an internship defended as the final exam during the graduation session.
The internship:

  • is part of the academic credits (CFU) required by the study plan
  • is compulsory to obtain the bachelor's degree title
  • has a duration of about three months
  • the curricular internship worth 15 ECTS credits requires a total of 375 hours.
  • can be started during the second semester of the third year, once at least 126 CFU have been acquired including individual units not reported.
  • must be completed before the graduation session
  • is conducted under the guidance of a Sapienza faculty member (called the Internal Internship Supervisor) who oversees its progress and advises the student during the writing of the final report, signing the front page of the final report.

At the end of the internship, the student must write an internship report and send it via email to the Educational Affairs Office.
The internship can be

  1. external
  2. internal
  3. recognized as a result of an external work activity.

  1. An external internship is carried out at companies or institutions outside the University. The external internship is supervised by a tutor of the external organization (External Internship Supervisor) and a Sapienza faculty member (Internal Internship Supervisor). The external internship involves a training project submitted through the TSP Sapienza-Stage e tirocini platform and approved by the internship committee, whose coordinator is Prof. Daniele Gorla (gorla@di.uniroma1.it).The external internship should preferably be completed within the period scheduled for the graduation application and must be completed before submitting the internship report.
  2. An internal internship is carried out within a research group or with a Sapienza faculty member. This internship is supervised exclusively by a Sapienza faculty member (Internal Internship Supervisor). It consists of the completion of a project that has been mutually agreed upon with the supervisor.
  3. An internship recognized as a result of an external work activity involves the definition of a project agreed upon with the person responsible for recognition prof. Daniele Gorla, who evaluates the extra-university work activity or other activity consistent with the educational path. There remains the obligation of writing the internship report and completing the procedures to graduate. For this purpose, the student must directly contact Prof. Daniele Gorla (gorla@di.uniroma1.it), who, after proper evaluation, will assign an Internal Internship Supervisor who will follow the student during the project.

 Procedures and deadlines
The forms must be submitted without a revenue stamp.

Internship and graduation

  • Stay focused on your internship work and coordinate regularly with your supervisor. The quality of the work is the main evaluation criterion.
  • Graduation application deadlines are strict: without submitting the application on time, it is not possible to graduate.
  • Internship assignment is an internal course procedure: progress matters, not a strict count of days.

Graduate

The final examination represents an important individual learning opportunity that completes the study programme. It consists of the preparation, presentation, and discussion of a written report, independently written by the student, which provides a clear and structured account of the problem addressed during the internship and the activities carried out to achieve its solution.
The discussion takes place before the Final Examination Committee, which determines the final degree grade based on the student’s academic record, the evaluation of the internship work, the written report, and the oral presentation.

Tutoring

Faculty tutor
Newly enrolled students are supported by a Faculty tutor, assigned by the Orientation and Tutoring Committee and communicated to students via email by the Academic Office.

The Faculty tutor:
- helps students identify and overcome any academic or methodological difficulties, assessing together any gaps in prior knowledge;
- provides guidance in planning and organizing the study path;
- promotes the development of effective study skills and strategies;
- offers information about the opportunities available at the University (scholarships, international mobility, internships, excellence programs).

Meetings are held periodically, according to a schedule agreed at the beginning of the program or based on the needs of the students throughout their studies.

Peer Tutoring Activities
Disciplinary tutoring activities, aimed at enhancing disciplinary learning are offered by the Faculty through student collaboration grants. The Study Program supervises the organization of activities carried out by the selected tutors, assigning them to first- and second-year courses.
Tutoring activities are typically conducted through weekly meetings, during which peer tutors propose exercises, oversee students’ work—including organizing small groups—and provide support in understanding the course content, demonstrating the correct methods for solving exercises.

Path of excellence

Honours Programmes aim to enhance the training of meritorious students who are enrolled in a degree programme and are interested in further studies and cultural integration activities.
Honours Programmes, which includes additional educational activities and provide a special certificate, are promoted by individual faculties through annual calls (Transparency Portal, Call for Proposals - Scholarships and Training).
At the end of the programme, students on Honours Programmes will receive full compensation for their last year of tuition fees.

Job Orientation

Career Service
The Sapienza Career Service supports students, graduates, and alumni during the transition from university to the labour market by offering a range of services, including:

  • information and assistance on available services;
  • individual career guidance sessions;
  • CV review and support;
  • training catalogue for career orientation and employability development;
  • partnerships with companies for placement and career guidance initiatives;
  • reserved selection processes;
  • organisation of recruitment and career guidance events;
  • organisation of Career Days.

Career guidance activities are implemented through initiatives organised by the Career Service and/or Faculties and other University structures, often in collaboration with companies, public and private organisations, and professional associations.
These activities include seminars, workshops, and thematic events on career orientation, transversal skills, and career management skills (e.g. soft skills, CV writing, job search strategies, video CVs, professional social networks, Employability Labs, etc.).
To facilitate interaction with companies and organisations, the University organises Recruiting Days, Career Days, Testimonial Days, company presentations, company visits, assessment activities, business games, mentoring programmes, and other placement-related initiatives, including those involving alumni networks and corporate mentorship schemes. These events may take place either online or in person and aim to identify profiles suited to the professional opportunities offered by employers.
Additional seminars, workshops, and thematic events are also offered to students, graduates, and alumni on topics such as innovation, start-ups, business incubation, career pathways, Innovation Camps, and similar initiatives.
Students, graduates, and alumni can also access the JobTeaser Sapienza platform in order to:

  • create and customise their CV;
  • apply for job opportunities aligned with their profile;
  • consult the list of registered companies and organisations and contact them directly;
  • register for recruitment events, company presentations, and Career Days.

Each year, the Career Service organises the University Career Day, dedicated to students, graduates, and alumni from all eleven Faculties of Sapienza, as well as several thematic or Faculty-specific Career Days, such as:

  • Humanities and Social Sciences Career Day;
  • Economic and Legal Sciences Career Day;
  • STEM Career Day.

Information on services, event calendars, and opportunities is available on the University website at:
https://www.uniroma1.it/it/pagina/career-service-studenti-e-laureati
The Career Service also manages official social media channels (Facebook, X, and LinkedIn), where it shares services, calls, competitions, and other opportunities for students and graduates.

Degree Programme Activities
Each year, the Department of Computer Science organises ITMeetings, structured events bringing together companies operating in the ICT sector and students, graduates, and alumni of the Applied Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence degree programme.
ITMeetings are held twice a year, usually in December and June, close to graduation sessions. These events host companies that develop or extensively use software solutions at local, national, or international level.
During the meetings, companies present their activities and outline collaboration opportunities, including job offers, internships for Bachelor’s students, and thesis projects. Each event also includes a round table discussion on current topics in Computer Science, providing a forum for companies, students, and academic staff to exchange ideas and share experiences on relevant professional and educational issues.
The programme also includes speed-dating sessions, i.e. short one-to-one interviews between company representatives and registered participants. These sessions provide an important opportunity for direct contact, allowing companies to meet potential candidates and collect CVs. On average, each edition hosts around fifty individual interviews.
