Degree programme choice orientation

The SOrT is Sapienza University’s Integrated Guidance Service. It includes a central office located in the main university campus (Città Universitaria) and several local offices within each Faculty. At SOrT offices, students can receive detailed information on Faculties and degree programs, as well as personalized guidance to help them make informed academic choices. The central office, together with Faculty staff, coordinates initiatives for incoming orientation and tutoring, and provides information on the educational offer and administrative procedures for admission to Sapienza programs.

Orientation Initiatives and Projects
1. “Porte Aperte alla Sapienza”
This annual event, held at the Città Universitaria, is the university’s main orientation event for prospective students and first-year applicants. During three full days, visitors can meet professors and students, receive information, and attend presentations in the Aula Magna, where the full range of Sapienza’s academic programs is introduced. The event is mainly addressed to students from the final years of secondary school, but is open to anyone interested in applying for Bachelor’s degrees, Single-cycle Master’s degrees, or Master’s degrees at Sapienza. “Porte Aperte” is an opportunity to discover Sapienza, explore its academic offer, learning spaces, cultural and social venues, and the many student services available — libraries and study halls, museums, residence halls, sports facilities, and the university theater. In addition to academic information, both in-person and virtual Faculty stands provide details on enrolment procedures, admission tests, and calls for applications for restricted-access programs.
To promote inclusiveness and ensure equal access to higher education, the Office for Relations with Students with Disabilities and Specific Learning Disorders (DSA) offers guidance and support for students with special needs through personalized study plans and dedicated teaching, financial, or logistical resources. The office also assists students in preparing the clinical documentation required to apply for special support measures.

2. Sapienza Orientation Portal
To guide students in choosing their degree program, Sapienza has developed an online Orientation Portal:

The portal offers an immersive virtual experience of university life, allowing users to explore the campus, classrooms, laboratories, libraries, theater, and sports and music facilities through interactive images and videos.
It also provides online teaching modules covering key topics from Sapienza courses, as well as tools to assess and improve one’s preparation for admission and entry tests.
The portal serves as the main hub for information on all orientation events organized throughout the year by Faculties and Departments. It also hosts introductory videos of Faculties and degree programs — especially new ones — and all initiatives are promoted via Sapienza’s official social media channels to reach potential students effectively.

3. Self-Assessment Tools
(Developed by Sapienza experts and scientifically validated)
a. “Conosci te stesso” (Know Yourself): helps guide the decision-making process in choosing an educational path. Once completed, it provides a personality profile, an academic profile, and a professional profile.
b. “Io, me e gli altri" (Me, Myself, and Others): measures soft skills, i.e., attitudes and interpersonal abilities that are essential for social and professional integration.

4. Orientation Events
The page https://www.uniroma1.it/it/node/347362 lists, in chronological order, all orientation events organized by the University, Faculties, Departments, and Teaching Area Councils (CAD/CdS).

Support for Students with Disabilities and Specific Learning Disorders (DSA)
Sapienza provides dedicated assistance to students with disabilities or specific learning disorders during the orientation, evaluation, and selection phases of admission. The Office for Students with Disabilities and DSA assesses the need for individualized arrangements for admission exams based on the documentation submitted. For programs with local or national restricted admission, candidates with disabilities may request specific compensatory measures, such as: dedicated classrooms, additional time, reading or support tutors, LIS interpreters, or calculators — according to the procedures specified in each call for applications. The office also oversees the welcoming process for newly enrolled students in conditions of vulnerability, with the assistance of specialized tutors, peer tutors, and LIS interpreters.

Program-Specific Orientation Activities (CdS)
In addition to university-wide initiatives, many department-level orientation activities are organized.
The main event is “Open DIAG ”, held annually at the Department of Computer, Control and Management Engineering “Antonio Ruberti” (DIAG). During this event, the degree programs of the department are presented to prospective students, who can participate in information sessions with professors and current students, and guided tours of the department’s teaching and research laboratories.
The Open DIAG event also includes demonstrative activities specifically related to the Master’s Degree in Engineering in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence.
The latest edition, held on 25–26 February 2025, welcomed around 500 participants.

Beyond Open DIAG, the program organizes visits to secondary schools in the Rome area, where faculty members present Sapienza’s educational offer. It also takes part in the Orientation Day organized by the Faculty of Information Engineering, Computer Science, and Statistics, presenting its program in the Aula Magna before an audience of over 500 attendees.

The Teaching Area Council (Consiglio di Area Didattica) regularly promotes the program to the public through media and social channels. Among its recent initiatives: participation in the Formazione 2025 special edition of Il Messaggero (online from 10 April 2025); an international communication campaign launched in March 2024 in collaboration with Study International (UK), reaching about 20 foreign countries and achieving over one million views across websites, social media, and partner channels.

The degree program also provides dedicated support for international students, funded by the University. This includes enhanced English-language communication, a dedicated orientation desk, and continuous assistance in collaboration with the student office.
