MEDIEVAL HISTORY

Course objectives

In consistency with the educational purposes of the whole teaching course, aim of the teaching unit is to give students a basic knowledge and comprehension skills in the field of MEDIEVAL HISTORY, with the help of advanced textbooks. Moreover, it will make the student able to apply the acquired knowledge in an expert and reflective way, making autonomous judgments, communicating ideas, problems and reflections in a clear and correct way, and developing the knowledge required to go further in the studies. The course aims to address the knotty problems of the pontificate of Celestine V, showing its connections with the history of the papacy and the expectations of renewal of the thirteenth century, analyzing the sources of different backgrounds and of various types.

The course provides an introduction to the main issues of the history of the medieval millennium, with particular attention to the development of political, economic and cultural relations, referring to the sources and the historiographical debate.
