Course program
Digital archive, recording and analysis of archaeological data from the site of Arslantepe, Turkey. Activity shall be oriented to the analysis, recording and archiving of archaeological finds from the pre- and protohistoric site of the Turkish Euphrates region, Arslantepe. Finds are ceramics, bone, metal, clay and stone objects with various functions (utensils, ornaments, ritual and symbolic objects, containers..). Part of the work shall consist in finding information on the finds within the original excavation paper archives and in collecting their drawings and photographs. Data shall be analysed and integrated within a digital archive system, to be then analysed. A limited number of students shall also have the possibility to participate to the excavations and researches at the Anatolian site of Arslantepe. Those who are interested should contact Francesca Balossi Restelli by the beginning of October of the year previous to that of field work. The specific aim is to train the student in the more practical aspects of the profession of archaeologist, necessary to his/her formation and access to future jobs. The activities carried regard the documentation and classification of materials and data analysis.

Lesson mode
Activities shall take place during the 2° semester, in the months march-June. Time and schedule of activities shall be decided together with the students, but a weekly meeting is scheduled in any case, on Fridays from 12 to 14. Activities shall be carried out in the archives of the Arslantepe excavation, at the “ex Vetrerie Sciarra”. Part of the work shall be carried out together in class, whilst part of the work will be carried out autonomously, at home. Other field experiences or analysis of material culture will also be evaluated.

For the didactic activities foreseen by this course, no particular requirement is needed except those acquired during the study programme in Archaeological Sciences of the three-year Bachelor degree (or equivalent).
