Culture Gender Media

Course objectives

The Course Culture Gender Media is aimed at: 1. making students aware of the significance of gender issues in historical and contemporary societies 2. making students aware of the influence of cultures and media in gender expressions and expectations 3. making students able to recognize gender-based and intersectional biases and discriminations – connected to ethnicity, class, age, the body, and so forth – in their own experiences and their social surroundings 4. making students conscious of the situated and relative nature of their own knowledge and experiences in analysing gender issues 5. helping students develop gender sensitive language and expression 6. giving students tools to develop their academic writing

Prerequisites
None; the course is open for all students.
Books
Material provided by the teacher. All material is shared through a relevant Moodle platform, where students are required to enrol. Enrolment instructions are provided during the first lectures.
Frequency
2 weekly lectures and related individual/group tasks.
Exam mode
Students are required to write a 1500-word academic essay according to teacher’s instructions.
Lesson mode
2 weekly lectures and related individual/group tasks. Students are expected to read short, allocated texts, and conduct small analytical tasks. Each session is focussed on a specific theme.
