LATIN PALEOGRAPHY A

Course objectives

In consistency with the educational purposes of the whole teaching course, aim of the teaching unit is to give students knowledge and comprehension skills in the field of LATIN PALEOGRAPHY A, that complete and/or reinforce those acquired in the first grade of studies. Moreover, it will make the students able to approach orginal themes in a research context, making more complex judgments, communicating knowledge and its process, and studying the subject in an independent and self-educational way. Students reach and improve historical, technical and bibliographical knolewdge in the development of latin writings in ancient and mediaeval age until XVIth century; they should be able to use all types of primary palaeographical sources, and to describe them appropriately. They will introduce to understand historical, cultural and social implications of writing in latin alphabet from late Antiquity to the rise of modern age, and should be familiar with the use of scientific and up-to-date bibliographic sources.
