ADVANCED ARCHAEOLOGY OF ROMAN PROVINCES
Course objectives
In consistency with the educational purposes of the whole teaching course, aim of the teaching unit is to give students knowledge and comprehension skills in the field of ARCHEOLOGY OF THE ADVANCED ROMAN PROVINCES, that complete and/or reinforce those acquired in the first grade of studies. Moreover, it will make the students able to approach orginal themes in a research context, making more complex judgments, communicating knowledge and its process, and studying the subject in an independent and self-educational way. The aim of this course is to provide students, through significant cases of Provincial Archaeology, advanced knowledge of the Roman Provincial culture, of relationship between centre and periphery, as well as a framework of the main historical, cultural and religious dynamics regarding the Western and Eastern Provinces. The course will focus on specific topics regarding the Roman Empire, on the urban and domestic Culture, as well as on the Sacred and Funerary space.
