TEXTS AND SPANISH LITERATURE ISSUES

Course objectives

Advanced knowledge of Spanish literature though the study of a text / author / theme / genre which hold a key-position in this tradition and literary culture. Specific deepenings of literary text analysis; acquisition of critical and performative capacity.

Course program
During the course the following topics will be addressed: Historical and literary context of the narrative "de postguerra"; bellicose literature (1936-1939); 'resurgimiento' of the Spanish novel (1940s), Camilo José Cela initiator of 'tremendismo', problems relating to the different denominations of Spanish fiction (also from a comparative point of view), female writing between the 1940s and 1950s (Carmen Laforet, Ana María Matute and Carme Martín Gaite). Specifically, the following novels will be analysed, through a narratological approach: Camilo José Cela, "The Family of Pascual Duarte" Carmen Laforet, "Nada" Carmen Martín Gaite, "Entre Visillos" Ana María Mature, "The Fiesta del Noroeste"
Prerequisites
A passive knowledge of the Spanish language relating to written comprehension of level A1/B2 is recommended

Frequency
The student who was present at 75% of the lessons and who presented a brief analysis of one of the stories foreseen as elective readings is considered attended. The student who does not attend will have to deliver to the teacher two papers written on two of the stories foreseen by the program as 'optional'
Exam mode
For attending students: 60% of the assessment will be given in the oral test, aimed at verifying the knowledge and skills listed in the Program item. 40% of the vote will concern the presentation of one of the novel of their choice foreseen in the program and whose analysis and deepening will be by the student who will have to exhibit his work in class.
Lesson mode
The course will take place in a modality for 60% with the modality of the master's lesson or ex cathedra. However, students will be required to autonomously read and comment (also by filling in the forms provided for this purpose and applying the narratological notions explained in the first part of the course) a novel indicated under texts as "of choice" (flipped classroom mode) (40% of the course).
