PROBLEMS OF ANCIENT CHRISTIAN LITERATURE

Course objectives

In consistency with the educational purposes of the whole teaching course, aim of the teaching unit is to give students knowledge and comprehension skills in the field of the Ancient Christian Literature, that complete and/or reinforce those acquired in the first grade of studies. Moreover, it will make the students able to approach orginal themes in a research context, making more complex judgments, communicating knowledge and its process, and studying the subject in an independent and self-educational way. In particular, the course aims at providing students with knowledge of literary genres, main themes and historical-philological problems of ancient Christian literature in Greek and Latin and translation and commentary of Christian texts in a critical edition.

Frequency
Attendance is recommended but not mandatory. Seminars will be organized.
Exam mode
The exam will consist of a series of questions on critical issues related to the text and interpretation of Revelation. In the second part, the student will read a passage from Revelation in Greek, translate it, and highlight its philological and interpretative problems.
