Degree programme choice orientation

Sapienza’s integrated Orientation service is called SOrT. It has a central office in University Campus, as well as Faculty-based offices. Students can find more specific information about the Faculties and degree programmes at SOrT and receive support to help them make decisions. The central office and Faculty professors coordinate incoming orientation and tutoring projects and provide information on course offerings and programme admissions.

Orientation initiatives and projects:

1. ‘Porte aperte alla Sapienza’.
This annual event, which is held on the University Campus, represents the most significant initiative for new students. The three-day event will provide an opportunity for attendees to meet faculty members and other students, to receive information, and to attend presentations in the Great Hall. These presentations will offer insight into the programmes offered by all of the University’s Faculties. The event is intended for prospective Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Single-Cycle Degree students, with a particular focus on those in their final years of Secondary Education. It provides an opportunity for all stakeholders to learn about Sapienza, its educational programmes, places of study, cultural activities, social life and the many services available to students, including libraries, study rooms, museums, university residences, sports facilities and the University theatre. In addition to the acquisition of teaching information from Faculty stands situated across the University, students have the opportunity to procure general administrative and enrolment information for the various degree programmes. Furthermore, individuals are permitted to obtain specific information regarding calls for admission to programme entrance exams.
Moreover, in order to promote inclusive environments and access to university education, the Department for Relations with Students with Disabilities and Learning Disabilities (DSA) facilitates discussion spaces for career management, offering personalised study plans as well as educational, financial and/or logistical support for vulnerable students. The Department also provides guidance on the procedures for requesting support and the required clinical certifications.

2. Portale Orientamento Sapienza.
In order to facilitate the selection process for prospective students of degree programmes, the University has developed an online portal that offers an immersive experience of university life (https://orientamento.uniroma1.it/index.html). The portal incorporates interactive images and videos of the campus, including classrooms, laboratories, libraries, theatres, music facilities, and sports facilities. Furthermore, it offers online learning modules on the primary course topics. The portal provides students with the means to evaluate and enhance their readiness for admission tests and knowledge assessments.
Furthermore, it functions as the primary liaison for information regarding orientation events scheduled by the various Faculties and Departments throughout the year. Furthermore, the website contains a selection of videos presenting the Faculties and Degree Programmes, with a particular emphasis on new additions to the curriculum. All orientation initiatives are promoted on the University’s social media channels with the aim of capturing the attention of prospective students.

3. Self-assessment tools developed by Sapienza experts and scientifically tested.
a. ‘Conosci te stesso’: This tool effectively guides the decision-making process for choosing a course of study. Once completed, it provides personality, academic and professional profiles.
b. ‘Io, me e gli altri’: This tool enables you to evaluate soft skills, i.e. aptitudes relevant to integration into society and the world of work.

4. ‘Eventi di orientamento’.
This website lists all of the University’s orientation events in chronological order, organised by Faculty, Department and CAD/CdS. The link is: https://www.uniroma1.it/it/node/347362.

The University supports students with disabilities and learning difficulties throughout the important processes of orientation, assessment and admissions.
The ‘Settore studenti con disabilità e DSA’ considers methods for taking entrance exams on a case-by-case basis, taking into account any certifications submitted by students.
Students with disabilities who wish to enrol on local or national limited-access programmes requiring a selective entrance exam can request compensatory measures, such as a dedicated classroom, extra time, a personal Tutor, an assistant, a sign language interpreter or a calculator, by following the application procedures outlined in the programme admission notices.
Finally, the ‘Settore studenti con disabilità e DSA’ assists vulnerable students enrolling at Sapienza by providing support from specialist and peer tutors, as well as sign language interpreters.

***Programme activities***
As part of their Degree Programme, students participate in events organised by the University and the Faculty. Professors and tutors play an active role in these events. As part of the Programme’s orientation strategies, a course presentation video has been produced (http://y2u.be/pim_Pq2JtJM).
The Academic Secretariat produces brochures illustrating the Programme, which are distributed at in-person orientation events and published on the Lettere Classiche Teaching Area website. These materials provide a concise overview of how exams are divided by year, as well as the compulsory and elective courses. They also facilitate comparison with other degree programmes.
To complement its incoming orientation services, the Degree Programme holds an institutional event in October to present the curriculum and objectives of the programme.
Students interested in enrolling can contact the SOrT office using the details provided on the Faculty and SOrT web pages.
