Course program
The course aims to combine the theoretical part (introduction to the reading of the audiovisual text, strategies of audiovisual translation, functionality of literary dialogue and cinematographic dialogue) and practical (translation workshop), focusing in particular on the problems of translation from/into a "minor" (Polish) language & culture.
Among the topics covered:
What is Text? Verbal text and visual text: similarities, connections, differences. Audio-visual text – features
Dialog functionality. Literary dialogue and filmic dialogue. Spontaneous and prepared dialogue. Correlation between the dialogue and the image.
Audiovisual translation compared to other types of translation. Main features and issues.
Subtitles: technical features and translation problems.
Documentary: characteristics and cultural context. Voice-over translation and its problems.
Dubbing: issues. Dubbing in Italy and Poland: cultural context.
Audio description: context and functionality.
New technologies, new challenges: transmedia, transcreativity, text-to-speech, machine translation, etc
