Course program
The course is divided into two modules. The first module consists of 3 illustrative teaching units. The second module of 2 practical teaching units.
Prerequisites
To obtain formal recognition for English-language IV, students need to have passed the English Language test of Clinical Methodology and Clinical Integrated Methodology (I sem.).
Books
The teacher will upload the material required for the lectures on the e-learning “Moodle” platform.
Frequency
Attendance is compulsory.
Exam mode
The teacher will assess each individual student’s Portfolio and provide feedback. If the work uploaded into the Portfolios reveals improvement in students’ knowledge of the ability to draft a medical abstract in English, their performance will be considered satisfactory. The teacher may still ask the students for clarifications concerning the material collected and the work is done (discussion). Should the material in the Portfolio prove incomplete and/or imprecise (therefore insufficient), students will be required to rectify or redo one or more of their activities until they demonstrate that they have acquired the knowledge and skill required by the course. Deadlines for the presentation of Portfolios are published on the e-learning platform and coincide with the normal exam sessions foreseen by the academic calendar (summer, autumn, and winter).

Lesson mode
During the frontal lessons of the first module, various types of study designs related to medical literature will be analyzed. The typical phraseology and rhetorical-textual strategies of each text will be highlighted. Students will also learn to reuse chunks for drafting a medical paper based on prompts provided by the teacher.
