International experiences

The fully integrated, transnational nature and mobility nature of the ARCHMAT EMJM is guaranteed by the compulsory mobility track of the ARCHMAT Curriculum  and the delivering of a joint, single European diploma degree in three European countries (Portugal, Greece, and Italy) where the 3 full HEI Partners, UEVORA, AUTh and UNIROMA1 are located.

A compulsory 6-months mobility component during the first 3 semesters (UEVORA ⇨ AUTh ⇨ UNIROMA1) has been designed to:

  • facilitate the academic as well as social induction periods and cohesion through the participation to a wide range of activities proposed in each Partner Institution (Campus life, University Music and Cultural Events, Student associations, etc.)
  • allow the acquisition of working language competences in three European languages (Portuguese, Italian, and Greek) that are being used in relevant archaeological literature, beside the official English ARCHMAT teaching language
  • follow an “archaeological” chronological pathway from Prehistory to Greek and Roman civilizations periods
  • run on a “progressive specialization” timeline basis with courses progressively dealing from basic with more specialized and applicative aspects moving from the first (UEVORA) to the second (AUTh) and the third (UNIROMA1) semesters. The student involvement in laboratory hands-on workload will progressively increase so that at the end of the third semester they will have acquired an integrated knowledge of different approaches and study techniques of Archaeological materials
  • expose students to the inherent multidisciplinary character of the ARCHMAT EMJM with the added value of benefitting from the differential expertise in multifaceted Archaeometry aspects (both from the point of view of instrumental facilities and in terms of variety of field case studies) that they will find at each of the different Partners and Associated member institutions.

The mobility component of the ARCHMAT EMJM also involves a 4th semester of Thesis project at each of the three Consortium Institution (Portugal, Greece and Italy) with the option of internships of no more than 2 months at one of the HEIs, Research Laboratories and Museums acting as associated members from EU (Portugal, Italy, Greece, France, Spain, and Belgium) and non-EU countries (Brazil, Israel, Colombia, Thailand and China).
