International Study, Research, and Internship Opportunities
Sapienza University of Rome offers a wide range of international opportunities for study, research, and internships both within and outside of Europe. These opportunities include short- and long-term stays, thesis research abroad, and more.
Study Periods in European Countries: Erasmus+ (Student Mobility for Studies – SMS)
The Erasmus+ program promotes transnational cooperation among higher education institutions and funds student mobility for study purposes across all disciplines and academic levels, including PhD programs.
It facilitates full academic recognition of activities completed abroad within the European Higher Education Area (EHEA).
Students may attend courses, sit for exams—with full academic recognition—or conduct thesis research at a partner university abroad.

Internships in European Countries: Erasmus+ Traineeship
Erasmus+ Traineeship supports full-time internships at companies, training centers, or research institutions located in Erasmus+ participating countries.
These internships are recognized as integral parts of the student’s academic curriculum and may also be undertaken after graduation, provided that selection occurs before the degree is awarded.
The internship period is cumulative with Erasmus study mobility, up to the maximum allowed by the program.

Academic Coordination and Support
As part of these initiatives, the President of the Degree Program schedules introductory meetings with the RAM (Academic Mobility Coordinator) and encourages students to engage with the RAM when considering Erasmus experiences.
Additionally, Sapienza’s Department of Social Sciences and Economics (DiSSE) has established a Commission for Internationalization, which regularly presents the international study opportunities available through the CIVIS network during the academic year.
This Commission also supports the RAM in planning and managing Erasmus mobility pathways.
