analysis of political language
Course objectives
The course aims to provide the paradigmatic tools of the analysis of political language, with particular attention to the phenomenon of populism. At the end of the course students will be able to reconstruct the historical and conceptual evolution of the term and its concrete achievements. The historical analysis is accompanied by the contemporary analysis of current populisms, the elements in common and the differences they have.

Course program
The course, through the lens of polytolinguistics, analyzes the relationship between language and politics. Following this methodology, the main aspects of the political lexicon will be highlighted in relation to: language and context, ideology, analytical categories of polytolinguistics, analysis of written texts and speeches given by political leaders from different geographical areas. In particular we will focus on the illiberal Putinian model of sovereign democracy and the Shiite Islamic model proposed by Ayatollah Khamenei.
Prerequisites
Conoscenze di base: buona conoscenza dei temi a carattere politologico e di storia del pensiero politico.

The teaching modalities will be divided on three levels: frontal lesson, intermediate examination, seminars and flipped classroom.
