Degree programme choice orientation
The SOrT – Integrated Orientation Service at Sapienza University
The SOrT (Integrated Orientation Service) is the university-wide orientation system at Sapienza University of Rome. It includes a central office located within the main university campus and local offices (help desks) within the individual Faculties. At SOrT offices, students can access detailed information specific to Faculties and degree programmes and receive guidance to support their academic choices.
The central office, in collaboration with Faculty staff and academic advisors, coordinates orientation and tutoring initiatives for prospective and enrolled students. It also provides information on the academic offerings and administrative procedures for course enrolment.
Orientation Initiatives and Projects
1. "Porte Aperte alla Sapienza" (Open Days)
Held annually at the main university campus, "Porte Aperte alla Sapienza" is the University’s key orientation event aimed primarily at prospective students, especially final-year secondary school students. During the three-day event, visitors can meet professors and current students, obtain information, and attend presentations in the Aula Magna introducing all Faculties' academic offerings.
This initiative provides an opportunity for prospective students and all stakeholders to explore Sapienza's educational programmes, cultural spaces, study facilities, student services (libraries, study rooms, museums, student residences, sports facilities, and the university theatre).
Alongside academic information, visitors can also receive practical advice regarding administrative processes, such as enrolment procedures and competitive admission tests. Support is available both in physical faculty stands located throughout the campus and in virtual booths online.
In promoting inclusive education and facilitating access to university for all, the Student Services Office for Students with Disabilities and Specific Learning Disorders (DSA) also offers dedicated spaces for guidance. It supports students with tailored study plans, academic and/or financial/logistical support, and assistance in navigating the application process for accommodations, including details on the required clinical documentation.
2. Sapienza Orientation Portal
To support students in selecting their academic path, Sapienza has developed an online orientation portal: https://orientamento.uniroma1.it/index.html. This immersive platform offers a virtual preview of university life, enabling users to explore the campus, classrooms, labs, libraries, theatres, and sports/music spaces through interactive images and videos.
The portal also includes online educational modules introducing key topics covered in university courses and tools for evaluating and improving one's preparation for entrance and knowledge assessment tests.
It serves as a central hub for updates on faculty- and department-specific orientation events and provides video presentations of Faculties and degree programmes, with a focus on newly established courses. All orientation activities are also promoted through the university’s official social media channels to reach a wider student audience.
3. Self-Assessment Tools (developed and scientifically validated by Sapienza experts)
- "Know Yourself" – A decision-making support tool for selecting an academic path. After completion, students receive a personality profile, an academic aptitude profile, and a career profile.
- "Me, Myself and Others" – Assesses soft skills, which are key for integration into society and the labour market.

Support for Students with Disabilities and Specific Learning Disorders (DSA)
Sapienza University actively supports students with disabilities and DSA in the crucial phases of orientation, assessment, and admission. The dedicated office evaluates the need for personalised entrance exam accommodations based on students' official certifications.
For programmes with limited enrolment (locally or nationally regulated), students with disabilities may request compensatory measures such as: dedicated exam rooms, extended time, reader tutors, accompanying tutors, LIS (Italian Sign Language) interpreters, or calculator use—according to the procedures outlined in the relevant admission notices.
Upon enrolment, the office ensures the provision of academic and logistical support, with the assistance of trained tutors, peer tutors, and LIS interpreters, to promote inclusion and support vulnerable students throughout their university journey.
