Curriculum
Stefano Bovino is an Associate Professor of Astrochemistry in the Department of Chemistry at Sapienza University of Rome and an Adjunct Associate Professor of Astronomy at the University of Concepción, Chile. He obtained his Ph.D. in 2011 with a dissertation in astrochemistry focused on the early Universe. During his doctoral studies, he spent several months at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, working on chemical processes in planetary atmospheres under the supervision of Professor Alexander Dalgarno.
After completing his Ph.D., he conducted research in Germany, first at the Institute for Astrophysics in Göttingen and later at the Hamburg Observatory. From 2017 to 2023, he was an Associate Professor of Astronomy in the Department of Astronomy at the University of Concepción, where he established the astrochemistry group and contributed to the development of the Laboratory for Atomic and Molecular Physics (LAMP). This laboratory develops cutting-edge experiments to study interactions between molecules and cosmic dust.
He collaborates with leading research centers such as the Center for Astrochemical Studies (Germany) and the Center for Interstellar Catalysis (Denmark). For his work, he was awarded the Carla Roetti Medal in 2015 by the Italian Chemical Society and the AG Astrophysical Software Award in 2022 by the German Astronomical Society—a prestigious biennial prize given for software development that has significantly advanced research in astrophysics.
