Part VIII – Research Activities

Letizia Santinelli has experience in studying the immunological and virological aspects of several infectious diseases. Among several viruses investigated, her principal studies were focused on respiratory viruses, including Rhinovirus (HRV) and SARS-CoV-2, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV-1) and Human Papilloma virus (HPV). Letizia has expanded her expertise evaluating several serological markers of inflammation and immune activation characterizing viral pathogenesis, to identify predictive markers of disease severity; moreover, she developed an excellent expertise on the evaluation of cellular immune responses (e.g., NK cells, monocytes, CD4+ and CD8+ T lymphocytes an B lymphocyte subsets), as well as in the characterization of microbiota profile in both peripheral and intestinal compartments. Letizia has developed strong ability on flow cytometry methods, molecular techniques, as ELISA assays, standard PCR and Real Time PCR for quantification of gene expression levels.
