Degree programme choice orientation
SOrT is Sapienza’s Integrated Orientation Service. It has a central office in the University campus and desks located within the Faculties. At SOrT, students can find specific information regarding Faculties and degree programmes and receive guidance in making informed choices. The central office and Faculty academic staff coordinate orientation projects for incoming students and tutoring activities, while also providing information on the educational offer and administrative procedures for enrolment.
Orientation initiatives and projects:
1. ‘Open Days at Sapienza’.
This annual initiative, held at the main University campus, is the most important event dedicated to prospective students. Over three orientation days, participants can meet professors and students, receive information, and attend presentations at the Aula Magna showcasing the educational offer of all Faculties. The initiative is open to anyone interested in enrolling in Bachelor’s, Single-Cycle Master’s, or Master’s Degree Programmes, with particular focus on high school students in their final years. The event offers a unique opportunity to discover Sapienza, its study programmes, facilities, cultural spaces, and student services (e.g., libraries, study rooms, museums, student residences, sports facilities, and University theatre). In addition to information on academic programmes, at the faculty stands located along the university’s avenues – as well as at the virtual stands –, one can learn more aboout administrative procedures, including enrolment requirements, as well as details on entry tests.
In addition, the Office for Students with Disabilities and SLD promotes inclusive access to higher education through customised and individualised study plans and the provision of didactic, financial, or logistical support for vulnerable students. The Office also guides students through the procedures required to request support and specifies the necessary medical documentation.
2. Sapienza Orientation Portal.
To support students in choosing their study programme, the University has developed an online portal (https://orientamento.uniroma1.it/index.html) that provides an immersive preview of university life: virtual tours of the campus, classrooms, laboratories, libraries, theatre, music and sports facilities; online teaching modules covering key topics of the courses; and tools to assess and improve preparation for admission or entry tests.
The portal is also the main point of access for information on orientation events organised throughout the year by Faculties and Departments. It hosts videos introducing Faculties, Bachelor’s, Single-Cycle, and Master’s Degree Programmes, with a particular focus on newly established courses. All orientation initiatives are promoted through Sapienza’s social media channels in an attempt to catch the attention of potential students.
3. Self-assessment tools (developed and validated by Sapienza experts).
a. ‘Know Yourself’ supports decision-making in choosing an academic programme, providing feedback on personality, academic, and professional profiles.
b. ‘Me, Myself and Others’: measures soft skills, i.e., personal attitudes relevant for integration into society and the labour market.
4. ‘Orientation Events’.

The University supports students with disabilities and SLD throughout the crucial process of orientation, assessment and admission. The Office for Students with Disabilities and SLD evaluates the need for individualised arrangements for entry tests based on the documentation provided. For enrolment in programmes with limited places requiring a an entry test, students with disabilities may request compensatory measures (e.g., dedicated rooms, additional time, reader tutor, accompanying tutor, sign language interpreter, calculator), following the procedures specified in the call for applications. The Office, supported by specialised tutors, peer tutors and sign language interpreters, also provides reception and assistance to vulnerable students enrolling at Sapienza.
***Degree Programme Activities***
The Degree Programme actively participates in OPEN DIAG, the annual event through which the DIAG Department presents its teaching and research activities to lower secondary, upper secondary and undergraduate students, as well as their families. On this occasion, members of the programme present the Master’s Degree in Management Engineering, guide visitors through laboratories, and offer demonstrations based on ongoing research projects and the most significant Master’s and PhD theses, with the support of doctoral students and alumni who explain how important the degrees have been in their professional paths.
The OPEN DIAG application developed by the Department itself represents an important support tool for the event. It provides visitors with an interactive and informative guide to the various teaching and research activities presented, offering an engaging experience that facilitates understanding of the Department’s educational offer.
In addition, the application plays a key role in providing prospective students with information on admission procedures and requirements. Through the app, applicants can easily access information on degree programmes, study plans, admission requirements and other useful resources for navigating the university choice process.
The Degree Programme actively participates in the I3S Faculty Open Day, which is a way for the Faculty of Information Engineering, Computer Science and Statistics (I3S) to present its academic programmes and internationalisation opportunities to upper secondary school students.
