A) Acquisition of a solid work methodology (critical analysis of current bibliographies, ability to work directly on literary texts, case studies) in relation to most recent research directions.
B) Knowledge of canonical and non-canonical stages of English literary history, of the key genres in a culture/tradition, of fundamental issues of the period(s) in exam.

This course will focus on the evolution of the English language, from its Germanic origins through the Middle English, to Modern English (early and late), and the varieties of present day Englishes.

To show the interrelation between literature and music, through the study of Opera, which is by definition a union of several languages and arts. Through the close examination of some operatic texts, and different periods, the relationship between the Italian and Anglo-American traditions will be seen.
