Archaeological Materials Science - Scienza dei Materiali Archeologici

NG1 Requisiti di ammissione
La LM-11 in Archaeological Materials Science è aperta a studenti e studentesse europei ed extraeuropei in possesso di diploma universitario di durata triennale o altro titolo straniero di pari durata e numero di crediti formativi (180 CFU/ECTS), riconosciuto idoneo in base alla normativa vigente.
Sono ammessi alla LM ARCHMAT gli studenti e le studentesse che hanno acquisito, nel corso della laurea di provenienza, i CFU minimi di base e caratterizzanti indicati nella tabella ministeriale della classe L-43 Tecnologie per la Conservazione e il Restauro dei Beni Culturali, ovvero 36 CFU complessivi nei SSD delle attività formative di base. Per i diplomi conseguiti all'estero, viene valutata caso per caso, l'affinità culturale con le discipline delle attività formative di base e caratterizzanti da una commissione internazionale, composta da membri delle tre università partner.
Le domande di ammissione vanno presentate online registrandosi e compilando il formulario sull’apposito tab del sito https://www.erasmusmundus-archmat.eu, con scadenza alla fine di febbraio di ogni anno. Il consorzio accademico, composto dall'Università di Evora (Portogallo - Istituzione Coordinatrice), Aristotle University di Salonicco (Grecia) e Sapienza Università di Roma, adotta ogni misura per garantire pari opportunità a tutti i candidati e le candidate senza discriminazioni di genere, razza e nazionalità.
I candidati e le candidate dovranno caricare sulla pagina web della domanda di ammissione alla LM-11 ARCHMAT i seguenti documenti:
- Documento di riconoscimento (passaporto per i candidati non europei) con fotografia
- Diploma universitario (laurea triennale – “Bachelor”)
- Certificato di laurea con indicazione degli esami sostenuti e relativa votazione
- Curriculum Vitae et Studiorum (formato EUROPASS)
- Certificato attestante i requisiti linguistici (TOEFL, IELTS , Cambridge con minimo B2 in lingua inglese secondo il sistema CEFR)
Prima della procedura di valutazione dei candidati e delle candidate, le domande di ammissione saranno controllate riguardo a:
- rispetto della data di scadenza del bando
- completezza della domanda
Una commissione di valutazione composta da membri delle tre università partner applicherà i seguenti criteri per selezionare gli studenti e le studentesse che vengono ammessi al colloquio:
- Eccellenza accademica
- Coerenza della formazione accademica con la LM ARCHMAT
- Competenze linguistiche (lingua inglese)
È prevista la verifica della personale preparazione in ingresso.

NG1 Admission requirements
The Erasmus Mundus Joint Master (EMJM) in Archaeological Materials Science (ARCHMAT) is open to excellent European and non-European students with a three-year university diploma (Bachelor’s, level 6 of the European Qualifications Framework-EQF, 180 CFU/ECTS), with academic recognition by CIMEA - Information Centre on Academic Mobility and Equivalence (https://www.cimea.it/).
Students who have acquired, during their Bachelor, the minimum fundamental and characterizing CFU/ECTS indicated in the ministerial table of BSc class L-43 Technologies for the Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage, or 36 CFU/ECTS in disciplines the basic training activities for the same BSc Class, can be admitted to the LM ARCHMAT. For diplomas issued abroad, the cultural affinity with the disciplines of the fundamental and characterizing training activities is assessed on a case-by-case basis by an international selection Committee, composed by members of the three partner universities.
Applications for admission are submitted only online by registering and filling the form available by clicking the Application tab on the website www.erasmusmundus-archmat.eu, with deadline at the end of February of each year. The Academic Consortium, composed of the University of Evora (Portugal), Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Greece) and Sapienza University of Rome, takes every measure to ensure equal opportunities for all candidates without discrimination based on gender, race and nationality.
Candidates have to upload all of the following documents as part of the application procedure:
- Proof of nationality (passport copy with photo)
- Scanned copy of University diploma (three-year degree)
- Degree certificates indicating the exams taken and the relative grades
- Curriculum Vitae et Studiorum (EUROPASS format)
- Certificate attesting the English language requirement (TOEFL, IELTS or Cambridge - minimum score B2according to CEFR levels).
Prior to the start of the selection procedure, an eligibility check will be performed on each candidate. The eligibility check will cover the following aspects:
- respect of application deadline
- completeness of the application file
The ARCHMAT Selection Committee, composed by member of the three partner universities, will evaluate the applications according to the following criteria and will select the candidates admitted to the interview:
- Academic excellence
- Consistency of the Bachelor training pathway with the LM ARCHMAT
- Language skills (English language).

A verification of the personal preparation of the candidates is foreseen upon entry.

NG2 Modalità di verifica delle conoscenze in ingresso
Gli studenti e le studentesse selezionati e in possesso dei requisiti curriculari vengono invitati a un colloquio online per la verifica della personale preparazione. Il colloquio si svolgerà in modalità a distanza, gli studenti e le studentesse riceveranno informazioni dettagliate. La commissione internazionale valuta anche la conoscenze di base di chimica, fisica, scienze della terra, biologia e archeologia.
Maggiori dettagli sulle modalità di verifica del possesso dei requisiti curriculari e della preparazione personale dello studente e della studentessa per l’ammissione alla LM ARCHMAT sono definiti nel regolamento pubblicato nella pagina web internazionale del corso (https://www.erasmusmundus-archmat.eu).

NG2 Verification of the personal preparation of the candidates
All selected candidates who meet the curricular requirements will be shortlisted and invited to hold an interview with the ARCHMAT Selection Committee, to verify their personal preparation. The interview will be held remotely, students will receive detailed information. The ARCHMAT Selection Committee will also evaluate the basic knowledge of chemistry, physics, earth sciences, biology and archaeology.
More details on selection procedures, the curricular requirements and the verification of personal preparation of the candidates for admission to the LM ARCHMAT are defined in the regulation published on the international web page of the course (https://www.erasmusmundus-archmat.eu).

NG3 Passaggi, trasferimenti, abbreviazioni di corso, riconoscimento crediti
In considerazione del carattere internazionale (ERASMUS MUNDUS JOINT MASTER – EMJM) con mobilità obbligatoria del CdS e dello svolgimento dei corsi di insegnamento presso l’Università di Evora (Portogallo), l’Università Aristotele di Salonicco (Grecia) e Sapienza Università di Roma, non sono previsti passaggi, trasferimenti, abbreviazioni di corso e riconoscimento crediti.

NG3 Transfers, course abbreviations, credit recognition
In consideration of the international nature with mandatory mobility of the ARCHMAT Erasmus Mundus Joint Master – EMJM), with courses held at the University of Evora (Portugal), the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Greece) and Sapienza University of Rome, transfers, course abbreviations and credit recognition are not foreseen.

NG4 Percorsi formativi
Ogni studente/studentessa deve ottenere l’approvazione ufficiale del proprio completo percorso formativo da parte del CAD (piano di studio on-line: tramite infostud); il percorso è compilabile dalla pagina Infostud dello studente/studentessa. Una volta compilato il modulo dell’intero percorso formativo, sarà necessario inviarlo elettronicamente attraverso l’interfaccia grafica di Infostud, per ottenere l’approvazione da parte del responsabile della valutazione. L’approvazione è necessaria per verbalizzare gli esami.
Se approvato, il piano è trasmesso alla Segreteria Studenti dove diviene parte integrante della carriera dello studente/studentessa. In caso negativo, lo studente/studentessa sarà invitato/a a modificare la scelta degli insegnamenti.

NG4 Educational paths
Each student must obtain official approval of their educational path from the CAD (online study plan: via infostud); the path can be filled in from the student's Infostud page. Once the form for the entire educational path has been filled in, it will be necessary to send it electronically through the Infostud graphic interface, to obtain approval from the person responsible for the assessment. Approval is necessary to register the exams.
If approved, the plan is sent to the Student Secretariat where it becomes an integral part of the student's career. If not, the student will be invited to change the choice of courses.

NG5 Modalità didattiche
Le attività didattiche sono di tipo convenzionale e distribuite su base semestrale.
Gli insegnamenti sono impartiti attraverso lezioni ed esercitazioni in aula, attività in laboratorio ed escursioni sul campo, organizzando l’orario delle attività in modo da consentire allo studente/studentessa un congruo tempo da dedicare allo studio personale.
La durata nominale del corso di Laurea Magistrale è di quattro semestri, pari a due anni.

NG5 Teaching methods
The teaching activities are conventional (not online) and distributed on a semester basis.
The teachings are imparted through lectures and exercises in presence, laboratory activities and field trips. The activities are planned in a way that gives the student enough time to devote to independent study.
The duration of the ARCHMAT Master's Programme is four semesters, corresponding to two academic years.

NG5.1 Crediti formativi universitari
Il credito formativo universitario (CFU) misura la quantità di lavoro svolto da uno studente e da una studentessa per raggiungere un obiettivo formativo. I CFU sono acquisiti dallo studente/studentessa con il superamento degli esami o con l’ottenimento delle idoneità, ove previste.
Il sistema di crediti adottato nelle università italiane ed europee prevede che ad un CFU corrispondano 25 ore di impegno da parte dello studente/studentessa, distribuite tra le attività formative collettive istituzionalmente previste (ad es. lezioni, esercitazioni, attività di laboratorio, escursioni di campo) e lo studio individuale.
Nel corso di Laurea Magistrale in Archaeological Materials Science, in accordo coll’articolo 23 del regolamento didattico di Ateneo, un CFU corrisponde a 10 ore di lezione/laboratorio/esercitazione guidata di campo con i rispettivi docenti.
Le schede individuali di ciascun insegnamento, consultabili sul sito web del corso di laurea, riportano la ripartizione dei CFU e delle ore di insegnamento nelle diverse attività, insieme ai prerequisiti, agli obiettivi formativi e ai programmi di massima.
Il carico di lavoro totale per il conseguimento della laurea è di 120 CFU.

NG5.1 University Credits (ECTS)
The European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS/CFU) measures the amount of work done by a student to achieve an educational objective. The ECTS/CFU are acquired by the student by passing exams.
The credit system adopted in Italian and European universities provides that one ECTS corresponds to 25 hours of commitment by the student, distributed between the institutionally required collective training activities (e.g. lectures, exercises, laboratory activities, field trips) and individual study.
In the EMJM in Archaeological Materials Science, in accordance with article 23 of the Italian University teaching regulations, one ECTS/CFU corresponds to 10 hours of lectures/laboratories/guided field exercises with their respective lecturers.
The individual information for each course, available on the ARCHMAT website, shows the distribution of ECTS/CFU and teaching hours in the various courses/activities, together with the prerequisites, training objectives and general programs.
The total workload for obtaining the degree is 120 CFU.

NG5.2 Calendario didattico
L’impegno orario settimanale prevede di massima lo svolgimento delle lezioni e delle esercitazioni per cinque giorni a settimana sempre nel rispetto delle modalità di occupazione dell’impegno orario complessivo dello studente/studentessa.
Il Corso di Laurea Magistrale in Archaeological Materials Science si articola in semestri. Le sessioni d'esame si svolgono nei periodi d'interruzione delle lezioni (gennaio febbraio e giugno-settembre).
Di norma Il primo semestre ha inizio l’ultima settimana di settembre e termina la seconda settimana di gennaio, il secondo semestre ha inizio l’ultima settimana di febbraio e termina la prima settimana di giugno, secondo le disposizioni stabilite dalle Facoltà delle rispettive università.
L’iscrizione agli appelli d’esame si effettua per via telematica sul sito Infostud.

NG5.2 Teaching calendar
The weekly time commitment generally includes lessons and practical activities for five days a week, always respecting the daily/weekly overall time commitment of the student.
The EMJM in Archaeological Materials Science is divided into semesters. The exam sessions are held during the periods of interruption of lessons (January-February and June-September)
As a rule, the first semester begins the last week of September and ends the second week of January, the second semester begins the last week of February and ends the first week of June, according to the provisions established by the Faculty of each partner University.
Registration for the exam sessions is done online on the Infostud website.

NG5.3 Prove d’esame
La valutazione del profitto individuale dello studente/studentessa, per ciascun insegnamento, viene espressa mediante l’attribuzione di un voto in trentesimi, con voto minimo di 18/30 per il superamento dell'esame.
Lo studente/studentessa consegue i crediti corrispondenti ad un insegnamento quando ne supera positivamente l'esame finale. Concorrono alla valutazione finale, per ciascun insegnamento le eventuali verifiche scritte e/o orali, l'eventuale lavoro individuale e l'esame conclusivo.
Alla valutazione finale possono concorrere i seguenti elementi:
- un esame scritto, che può essere distribuito su più prove scritte da svolgere durante ed alla fine del corso;
- un esame orale;
- il lavoro svolto in autonomia dallo studente/studentessa.

NG5.3 Exams
The evaluation of the student's individual performance, for each course, is expressed by assigning a grade out of thirtieths, with minimum grade 18/30 for passing the exam.
The student obtains the credits corresponding to a course when he or she successfully passes the final exam. The final evaluation for each course includes any written and/or oral tests, any individual work and the final exam.
The following elements may contribute to the final evaluation:
- a written exam, which can include several written tests to be taken during and at the end of the course;
- an oral exam;
- the work done independently by the student.

NG6 Modalità di frequenza, propedeuticità, passaggio ad anni successivi
La frequenza assidua di tutti i corsi è una condizione essenziale per un proficuo inserimento dello studente nel regolare svolgimento delle attività formative del corso di laurea.

NG6 Attendance methods, propaedeutics, passage to subsequent years
Regular attendance of all courses is an essential condition for a successful performance of the training activities of the Master Programme.

NG7 Regime a tempo parziale
In considerazione del carattere internazionale con mobilità obbligatoria del CdS e svolgimento dei corsi di insegnamento presso l’Università di Evora (Portogallo), l’Università Aristotele di Salonicco (Grecia) e Sapienza Università di Roma, non è previsto il regime a tempo parziale.

NG7 Part-time regime
In consideration of the international nature with mandatory mobility of the ARCHMAT Programme, with teaching courses at the University of Evora (Portugal), the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Greece) and Sapienza University of Rome, the part-time regime is not applicable.

NG8 Studenti/studentesse fuori corso e validità dei crediti acquisiti
Ai sensi dell’art. 32 del manifesto degli studi di Ateneo lo studente si considera fuori corso quando, avendo frequentato tutte le attività formative previste dal presente regolamento didattico, non abbia superato tutti gli esami e non abbia acquisito il numero di crediti necessario al conseguimento del titolo entro 2 anni.
Ai sensi dell’art. 33 del manifesto degli studi di Ateneo lo studente a tempo pieno che sia fuori corso deve superare le prove mancanti al completamento della propria carriera universitaria entro il termine di 6 anni dall’immatricolazione.

NG8 Students who are behind schedule and validity of credits acquired
A student is considered behind schedule when, having attended all the training activities provided for in this teaching regulation, he/she has not passed all the exams and has not acquired the number of credits necessary to obtain the qualification within 2 years.
Pursuant to art. 33 of the Sapienza University teaching regulations, a full-time student who is behind schedule must pass the tests missing to complete his or her university career within 6 years of enrollment.

NG11 Caratteristiche della prova finale
La prova finale consiste nella discussione in lingua inglese della tesi di Laurea Magistrale, costituita da un documento scritto in lingua inglese, presso una delle tre università partner. La commissione di laurea è composta da almeno un rappresentante di ciascuna delle tre università partner che rilasciano il titolo congiunto (UEVORA, AUTh, UNIROMA1). La votazione di laurea tiene conto della media pesata, in base ai crediti, dei voti conseguiti agli esami relativi ai vari insegnamenti e della presentazione e della discussione finale.
Lo svolgimento della tesi di Laurea Magistrale, che occuperà il secondo semestre del secondo anno di corso, consiste in uno studio originale condotto su un problema di natura applicativa, sperimentale o di ricerca attinente agli obiettivi della LM ARCHMAT, svolto sotto la guida di relatori delle università partner, eventualmente coadiuvati da correlatori dei partner associati.

NG11 The final exam
The Master's thesis project, which will be carried out during the second semester of the second year of the course, consists of an original study conducted on a problem of an applicative, experimental or research nature pertaining to the objectives of the LM ARCHMAT, carried out under the guidance of supervisors from the partner universities, possibly assisted by co-supervisors from the associated partners.
The final exam consists of the discussion in English of the Master's thesis, consisting of a document written in English, at one of the three partner universities. The Degree Jury is composed of at least one representative from each of the three partner universities that issue the joint degree (UEVORA, AUTh, UNIROMA1). The degree grade takes into account the weighted average, based on the credits, of the grades obtained in the exams relating to the various courses and of the final presentation and discussion.
