Research experience: My research activity in the past has mainly concerned the characterization of genes that control different aspects of cell cycle. More recently, I focused my attention on genes which play a role in chromosome integrity maintenance. During these studies, I found that two essential genes involved in vitamin B6 metabolism play a role in maintaining genome integrity and glucose homeostasis. So, I am currently exploring the relationship between vitamin B6, diabetes, DNA damage and cancer -by exploiting Drosophila models for both diseases- with the aim of revealing the mechanisms behind this relationship.
