Sono membro del Collegio Docenti della Scuola di Dottorato di Ricerca in Archeologia della Sapienza, Curriculum Orientale dall’A.A. 2023-2024 e componente della Commissione di Gestione dell’Assicurazione Qualità (CGAQ) della Scuola di Dottorato in Archeologia della Sapienza dall’A.A. 2024-2025.
Dal 2021 dirigo la missione archeologica italo-palestinese a Betlemme (https://sites.google.com/uniroma1.it/sapienzatobethlehem ), congiunta con il locale Dipartimento delle Antichità (Department of Antiquites and Cultural Heritage – Ministry of Tourism and Antiquites of Palestine), per lo scavo del sito di Khalet al-Jam’a. Nel periodo dal 2015 al 2020 sono stata la direttrice sul campo della missione e ho sovrinteso nel 2016 gli scavi di emergenza di Jebel Dhaher, necropoli datata dalla fine del Bronzo Antico al Bronzo Medio, seguendo la documentazione grafica, fotografica, la scansione 3D con camera infrarossi, nonché la pubblicazione dei reperti della necropoli di Bardhaa e della Tomba di el-Atan (Betlemme). Nel corso del 2016, del 2022 e del 2023 ho condotto alcune ricognizioni nel territorio della municipalità di Betlemme e nelle aree ad est, sino al Wadi Nar, a sud, nel villaggio di Beth Sahur, e a sud di questa, fino al confine con Hebron, catalogando e mappando i siti di interesse archeologico, storico e culturale, i cui risultati sono confluiti nel QGIS di Betlemme. - Le mie ricerche si concentrano prevalentemente sull’archeologia del Levante, con un interesse specifico per i processi di formazione urbana e le dinamiche culturali tra l’Età del Bronzo e l’Età del Ferro. Un ambito centrale dei miei studi riguarda le prime forme di urbanizzazione nel Levante meridionale, analizzate attraverso l’esame stratigrafico di diversi contesti archeologici, lo studio dei resti architettonici e l’analisi della cultura materiale.
- Un ulteriore area di interesse della mia attività scientifica è rappresentato dallo studio delle pratiche funerarie nel Levante durante l’Età del Bronzo e l’Età del Ferro. In particolare, partendo dalla necropoli del Bronzo Antico IV e del Bronzo Medio a Gerico, nonché le sepolture di età analoga nell’area di Betlemme (Khalet al Jam’a, Jebel Dhaher, Bardhaa, Hindaza, el-Atan). La mia analisi si è concentrata sull’architettura funeraria, sulla composizione dei corredi e sulle modalità di trattamento dei defunti, in un’ottica comparativa con i dati provenienti dalle regioni limitrofe, al fine di ricostruire un quadro complessivo delle tradizioni funerarie del Levante.
- Parallelamente, svolgo attività di ricerca sulla metallurgia e sulla produzione di manufatti metallici nel Levante tra il IV e il I millennio a.C., con particolare attenzione alle tecnologie metallurgiche e alle implicazioni socio-culturali delle produzioni del Bronzo Antico e Medio. Un interesse specifico è riservato alla categoria delle armi, indagate dal punto di vista tipologico-funzionale, cronologico e contestuale, con l’obiettivo di contribuire alla ricostruzione dei sistemi storico-sociali dell’epoca. In questo ambito ho coordinato la Linea di ricerca B.2 – Innovative Metallurgy nell’ambito del progetto PRIN 2017 (Prot. 2017EYZ727) “Peoples of the Middle Sea. Innovation and Integration in Ancient Mediterranean (1600–500 BC)” (PI Prof. Lorenzo Nigro), curando due contributi confluiti nel volume finale del progetto e coordinandone la pubblicazione (https://www.vicino-oriente-journal.it/index.php/vicinooriente/issue/view/45).
- Infine, una parte significativa della mia attività scientifica è stata dedicata allo studio delle collezioni museali. Ho avuto modo di analizzare e pubblicare repertori di armi in metallo conservati in importanti istituzioni britanniche (British Museum, University College London, Palestine Exploration Fund, Ashmolean Museum). Dal 2015 al 2025 ho ricoperto il ruolo di Curatore presso il Museo del Vicino Oriente, Egitto e Mediterraneo della Sapienza Università di Roma, approfondendo lo studio delle collezioni in una prospettiva multidisciplinare, volta alla valorizzazione e alla rilettura critica del patrimonio esistente

I am a member of the Faculty Board of the Sapienza Doctoral School of Archaeology, Oriental Curriculum from the academic year 2023-2024 and a member of the Quality Assurance Management Committee (CGAQ) of the Sapienza Doctoral School of Archaeology from the academic year 2024-2025.
Since 2021, I have been directing the Italian-Palestinian archaeological mission in Bethlehem (https://sites.google.com/uniroma1.it/sapienzatobethlehem), in collaboration with the local Department of Antiquities (Department of Antiquities and Cultural Heritage – Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities of Palestine), for the excavation of the Khalet al-Jam'a site. From 2015 to 2020, I was the field director of the mission and in 2016 I supervised the emergency excavations at Jebel Dhaher, a necropolis dating from the late Early Bronze Age to the Middle Bronze Age, following the graphic and photographic documentation, 3D scanning with an infrared camera, and the publication of the finds from the Bardhaa necropolis and the Tomb of el-Atan (Bethlehem).
During 2016, 2022, and 2023, I conducted several surveys in the municipality of Bethlehem and the areas to the east, as far as Wadi Nar, to the south, in the village of Beth Sahur, and south of this, up to the border with Hebron, cataloguing and mapping sites of archaeological, historical and cultural interest, the results of which have been incorporated into the QGIS of Bethlehem.
- My research focuses mainly on the archaeology of the Levant, with a specific interest in urban formation processes and cultural dynamics between the Bronze Age and the Iron Age. A central area of my studies concerns the early forms of urbanization in the southern Levant, analyzed through the stratigraphic examination of various archaeological contexts, the study of architectural remains, and the analysis of material culture.
- Another area of interest in my scientific work is the study of funerary practices in the Levant during the Bronze Age and Iron Age. In particular, starting from the Early Bronze Age IV and Middle Bronze Age necropolis in Jericho, as well as burials of a similar age in the Bethlehem area (Khalet al Jam'a, Jebel Dhaher, Bardhaa, Hindaza, el-Atan).
- My analysis focused on funerary architecture, the composition of grave goods, and the treatment of the deceased, comparing data from neighboring regions in order to reconstruct an overall picture of the funerary traditions of the Levant.
At the same time, I am conducting research on metallurgy and the production of metal artefacts in the Levant between the 4th and 1st millennia BC, with particular attention to metallurgical technologies and the socio-cultural implications of Early and Middle Bronze Age production. I'm especially interested in weapons, which I study from a typological-functional, chronological, and contextual point of view, with the goal of helping to reconstruct the historical-social systems of the time. In this area, I coordinated Research Line B.2 – Innovative Metallurgy as part of the PRIN 2017 project (Prot. 2017EYZ727) “Peoples of the Middle Sea. Innovation and Integration in Ancient Mediterranean (1600–500 BC)” (PI Prof. Lorenzo Nigro), editing two contributions that were included in the final volume of the project and coordinating its publication (https://www.vicino-oriente-journal.it/index.php/vicinooriente/issue/view/45).
- Finally, a significant part of my scientific activity has been devoted to the study of museum collections. I have had the opportunity to analyze and publish catalogs of metal weapons preserved in important British institutions (British Museum, University College London, Palestine Exploration Fund, Ashmolean Museum). From 2015 to 2025, I served as Curator at the Museum of the Near East, Egypt, and the Mediterranean at Sapienza University of Rome, deepening my study of the collections from a multidisciplinary perspective, aimed at enhancing and critically reinterpreting the existing heritage.
Since 2011, I have coordinated the editing and publication of the class A journal Vicino Oriente (ISSN 0393-0300; 2724-587X; eISSN 2532-5159; https://www.vicino-oriente-journal.it), vols.
