Prof. Gabriele Chilosi is a plant pathologist at the "Crop Protection Lab" of DIBAF. His current work focuses on optimizing crop production and preventing soil-borne and aerial diseases in horticulture (melon, tomato, potato, brassicas), cereal (durum wheat), and grapevine using sustainable management tools within a circular and agroecological approach.
In particular, his research interests involve implementing sustainable measures in crop production chains, such as using compost, green manure, and minimum tillage to increase soil fertility and prevent plant diseases. This study extends to analyzing soil microbial population functionality, mycorrhizal symbiosis, and the molecular mechanisms regulating host-pathogen-beneficial interactions, especially induced resistance.
Building on his expertise in environmental sustainability and plant health, Prof. Chilosi has expanded his research activities into landscape restoration. This area of research is also connected to his teaching at Sapienza University of Rome. His approach to landscape restoration involves implementing circular and sustainable interventions and measuring their impact using objective indices.
