Curriculum
Gabriella Spada è ricercatrice a tempo determinato di tipo A presso il Dipartimento Istituto Italiano di Studi Orientali (ISO) di Sapienza Università di Roma.
Dopo aver conseguito il titolo di dottore presso Sapienza Università di Roma, è stata assegnista di ricerca e borsista post-doc (finanziata dalla Gerda Henkel Stiftung) presso la stessa università.
Ricerca
I suoi principali ambiti di ricerca riguardano la storia socio-economica e la documentazione cuneiforme della Babilonia di II millennio a.C., con un focus particolare sulla ricostruzione e l'analisi del sistema scolastico di periodo paleo-babilonese.
Attualmente è direttrice del progetto digitale Old Babylonian Model Contracts (OBMC http://oracc.org/obmc) ed epigrafista delle missioni archeologiche a Eridu (Tell Abu Shahrain, Iraq meridionale) e Abu Tbeirah (Nasiriyah, Iraq meridionale), condotte da Sapienza.
Ha partecipato a vari gruppi di ricerca e progetti nazionali (PRIN 2002, 2004, 2006) e internazionali (2008, 2011, patrocinati dal Ministero degli Affari Esteri e dal Ministero dei Beni Culturali) svoltisi in Gran Bretagna (British Museum) e Iraq (Iraqi Institute for the Conservation of Antiquities and Heritage, Erbil).
Nel corso della sua carriera accademia ha pubblicato circa 600 testi inediti di vario genere e formato, principalmente relativi al periodo neo-sumerico e paleo-babilonese, appartenenti a diverse collezioni europee e statunitensi (British Museum; Hilprecht-Sammlung, Jena; Schøyen Collection, Oslo; Rosen Collection, Cornell University, Ithaca).
Altro
È vice-direttore della rivista di Classe A Oriens Antiquus Series Nova (Sapienza Università di Roma).
È abilitata per la I (dal 2025) e II fascia (dal 2018) per il Settore Concorsuale 10/N1, Culture del Vicino Oriente Antico, del Medio Oriente e dell'Africa.
Nel 2013 ha vinto il primo premio per il miglior articolo di ambito assiriologico indetto dalla International Association for Assyriology (IAA). Articolo premiato: A Handbook from the Eduba a: an Old Babylonian Collection of Model Contracts , Zeitschrift für Assyriologie und Vorderasiatische Archäologie 101/2, 204-245 (2011).

Gabriella Spada is a Research Fellow (RtdA) at the Department Italian Institute of Oriental Studies ISO , Sapienza University of Rome.
After earning her PhD at Sapienza University of Rome, she was a research fellow and a Gerda Henkel Stiftung Postdoctoral Scholarship holder at the same university.
Research
Her main research interests concern the socio-economic history and cuneiform documentation of second-millennium Babylonia, with a focus on the reconstruction and analysis of the school system of the Old Babylonian period.
She is currently the P.I. of the digital project Old Babylonian Model Contracts (OBMC http://oracc.org/obmc) and the field epigraphist of the Italian archaeological expeditions in Eridu (modern Tell Abu Shahrain, Southern Iraq) and Abu Tbeirah (Nasiriyah, Southern Iraq) conducted by Sapienza.
She has participated in various national (PRIN projects: 2002, 2004, 2006) and international (2008, 2011, financed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Cultural Heritage) research groups and projects. Multiple research activities were conducted in the UK (British Museum) and Iraq (Iraqi Institute for the Conservation of Antiquities and Heritage, Erbil).
During her academic career, she has published approximately 600 texts that were previously unpublished, covering diverse genres and formats mainly relating to the Neo-Sumerian and Old Babylonian periods. Her research has taken her to numerous European and American collections (e.g. British Museum; Hilprecht-Sammlung, Jena; Schøyen Collection, Oslo; Rosen Collection, Cornell University, Ithaca).
Other merits
She is Assistant Editor of the journal Oriens Antiquus Series Nova (Sapienza University of Rome).
In 2018, she received habilitation as an Associate Professor in Assyriology and Ancient Near Eastern Cultures (10/N1). In 2025, she obtained habilitation as a Full Professor in the same field.
In 2013 she won the IAA Prize for the best Assyriological article. The awarded article is: A Handbook from the Eduba a: an Old Babylonian Collection of Model Contracts , Zeitschrift für Assyriologie und Vorderasiatische Archäologie 101/2, 204-245 (2011).
