Aleksandra Jovićević è professoressa ordinaria delle arti e scienze dello spettacolo presso il Dipartimento SARAS (Storia, Antropologia, Religioni, Arti, Performance), Università La Sapienza di Roma e visiting professor presso l’Università delle Arti di Belgrado dal 2007, dove è stata docente dal 1993 al 2007, prima di trasferirsi a Roma.

Aleksandra Jovićević si è laureata presso l'Università delle Arti di Belgrado (drammaturgia), e ha conseguito la laurea specialistica (MA) e il Dottorato di Ricerca (PhD) presso il Dipartimento di Performance Studies, Tisch School of the Art, New York University, New York, sotto la supervisione di Richard Schechner e Brooks McNamara. Nel corso della sua carriera accademica, Aleksandra Jovićević ha vinto diverse borse di studio, tra cui Fulbright Visiting Fellowship presso Yale University, New Haven, USA nell’a.a. 2006/2007.

La professoressa Jovićević insegna teorie teatrali, estetica e politica della performance, e suoi interessi di ricerca vertono sulle nuove pratiche artistiche e politiche, sugli studi decoloniali e deculturali. Ha pubblicato libri, articoli e saggi su diverse riviste e volumi in italiano, serbo, inglese, sloveno, olandese, slovacco, polacco e tedesco. Ha fondato gli Annali della Facoltà di Arti Drammatiche di Belgrado (Zbornik radova FDU 1998), di cui ora fa parte del comitato editoriale internazionale. La professoressa Jovićević fa parte del comitato editoriale della rivista accademica Biblioteca teatrale, per la quale ha curato diversi volumi: il doppio volume dedicato alla nuova regia teatrale e alle nuove pratiche performative (BT 91/92 nel 2012) e tre volumi dedicati alla ricerca svolta nell'ambito del programma di dottorato in musica e performance del dipartimento SARAS (BT 136, 137, 138 nel 2021/22). La professoressa Jovićević è curatrice della collana Estetica and Politica della performance per Bulzoni editore di Roma (con Annalisa Sacchi), per la quale ha anche curato il libro di Richard Schechner, Il nuovo terzo mondo dei performance studies (2018). Tra le sue ultime pubblicazioni si segnalano le monografie: Orson Welles e il teatro. Shakespeare e oltre (Bulzoni editore, 2022) e L'architettura cognitiva e critica di performance studies. Trasmissione dei saperi performativi (Luca Sossella Editore, Roma, 2026); e articoli: "Postmodern Antigones: Women in Black and Performance of Involuntary Memory", in Theatre and Cultural Performances in the Context of Yugoslav Wars, (Palgrave MacMillan, 2019); "Aby Warburg's Performed Imageries in the Mnemosyne Atlas: The Unusual Birth of Performance Studies", in Pathographies of Modernity with Aby Warburg and Beyond (Cambridge University Press, 2024); e “The Cold War is Over and It Made Us Even Colder: Art and Artists Between Eastern and Western Europe, from 1945 to 2025”, Amfiteater, 13 (2), 2025.

Aleksandra Jovićević ha tradotto in serbo e curato il libro di Eugenio Barba e Nicola Savarese, A Dictionary of Theatre Anthropology: The Secret Art of the Performer (Institut FDU, Belgrado, 1997). Durante i bombardamenti NATO su Belgrado nel 1999, Aleksandra Jovićević ha tradotto i testi di Biljana Srbljanović per il quotidiano La Repubblica, che sono stati poi pubblicati come Diario da Belgrado (Baldini & Castoldi, 2000). Dal 1999 al 2001 Aleksandra Jovićević ha scritto una rubrica per il quotidiano tedesco Süddeutsche Zeitung, intitolata "Lettere da Belgrado". Aleksandra Jovićević è stata direttrice dell'Istituto di Teatro, Cinema, Radio e Televisione presso la Facoltà di Arti Drammatiche di Belgrado, (1997 al 2000); membro del comitato consultivo della Fondazione Culturale Europea di Amsterdam, (2008 al 2011); presidente della Fondazione per le Borse di Studio Dragan Klaić (2013 al 2023); Membro del Comitato Scientifico della ricerca “In Praise of Community : Shared Creativity in Arts and Politics in Italy, 1959 to 1979”, progetto ERC, coordinato dalla Prof.ssa Annalisa Sacchi (IUAV), (2015 al 2021). La professoressa Jovićević è stata anche la vice coordinatrice del Dottorato di Ricerca in Musica e Spettacolo (2015-2021) e la Direttrice del Master in Audio e Video Storytelling (2015-2024) presso il Dipartimento SARAS della Sapienza di Roma.

La professoressa Jovićević è stata anche Vice Ministra della Cultura della Repubblica di Serbia (2001-2004). Per la sua cooperazione culturale con l'Italia, è stata insignita della medaglia del Presidente della Repubblica Italiana, Ordine della Stella della Solidarietà Italiana, con il titolo di Commendatore (2005).

Aleksandra Jovićević is Professor of theatre and performance studies at SARAS Department (History, Anthropology, Religions, Arts, Performance), at La Sapienza University of Rome, from 2007, and a Visiting Professor at the University of Arts in Belgrade, where she taught before moving to Rome, between 1993 and 2007.

Aleksandra Jovićević graduated at the University of Arts in Belgrade (dramaturgy), and received her MA and the PhD at the Department of Performance Studies at the Tisch School of the Arts, New York University, New York, under the supervision of Richard Schechner and Brooks McNamara. During her academic career, Aleksandra Jovićević has won several scholarships among which Fulbright Visiting Fellowship at Yale University, New Haven, USA (2006/2007).

Professor Jovićević teaches theatre theories and aesthetics and politics of performance, and her research interests focus on new artistic and political practices, decolonial and decultural studies. She has published books, articles and essays in Serbian, English, Italian, Slovenian, Dutch, Slovak, Polish, and German. She is the founder of the Annals of the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Belgrade (1998), where she is now on the international editorial board. Professor Jovićević is on the editorial board of the academic journal, Biblioteca teatrale, (A level academic journal), for which she has curated several volumes: the double volume dedicated to the contemporary theatre direction and new performance practices (BT 91/92 in 2012), and three volumes dedicated to the research carried within the PhD program in music and performance of the SARAS department (BT 136, 137, 138 in 2021/22). Professor Jovićević is the editor of the series Performance Studies: Aesthetics and Politics of Performance for Bulzoni publishing house in Rome (with Annalisa Sacchi), for which she also curated the book by Richard Schechner, Il nuovo terzo mondo dei performance studies (The New Third World of Performance Studies, 2018). Among her latest publications are the books: Orson Welles e il teatro. Shakespeare e oltre (Orson Welles and the Theatre. Aleksandra Jovićević translated into Serbian and edited the book by Eugenio Barba and Nicola Savarese, A Dictionary of Theatre Anthropology: The Secret Art of the Performer (Institut FDU, Belgrade, 1997). During the NATO bombardment of Belgrade in 1999, Aleksandra Jovićević translated texts by Biljana Srbljanović for the Italian daily newspaper La Repubblica, which were later published as Diary from Belgrade, (Diario da Belgrado, Baldini & Castoldi, 2000). From 1999 to 2001 Aleksandra Jovićević wrote a column for the German daily newspaper, Süddeutsche Zeitung, under the title, “Letters from Belgrade”. Aleksandra Jovićević was the director of the Institute of Theatre, Film, Radio and Television at the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Belgrade, (1997-2000); member of the advisory board of the European Cultural Foundation in Amsterdam, (2008-2011); president of the Dragan Klaić Fellowship Foundation (2013-2023); member of the Scientific Committee of the research, “In Praise of Community : Shared Creativity in Arts and Politics in Italy, 1959 to 1979”, ERC project, coordinated by Prof. Annalisa Sacchi (IUAV), (2015-2021). Professor Jovićević was also a vice coordinator of the Phd program in Performance and Music from (2015- 2021), and the Director of Master in Audio and Video Storytelling (2015-2023) at the SARAS department of La Sapienza in Rome.

Professor Jovićević was also the Deputy Minister of Culture of the Republic of Serbia (2001-2004). For her cultural cooperation with Italy, she was awarded the medal of the President of the Italian Republic, Order of the Star of Italian Solidarity, with the title Commendatore (2005).
