Curriculum
José Lorenzana was born in Milan, Italy in 1964. He obtained a degree in physics (Licenciatura) from the Instituto Balseiro-University of Cuyo, Argentina, in 1988, and later earned his Ph.D. from the International School for Advanced Studies in Trieste, Italy in 1992. Following postdoctoral positions in Groningen and Paris in 1996, he joined the Centro Atómico Bariloche and Instituto Balseiro in Bariloche, Argentina, as a CONICET staff researcher, where he remained until 2002.
Subsequently, he moved to the Sapienza University of Rome, Italy, where he held various research positions as a staff researcher of INFM and CNR. Currently, he serves as the Director of Research at the Institute of Complex Systems (CNR) in Rome. Throughout his career, he has been involved in several national and international projects, including three European Marie Curie initiatives and Italy-Argentina bilateral projects.
José Lorenzana has supervised 6 postdoctoral researchers, 11 undergraduate students, and 5 Ph.D. students. His contributions extend beyond academia, as he received the Raices Award for International Cooperation on Science, Technology, and Innovation from the Argentinian Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation, as well as the APS Outstanding Referee Award.
His research primarily focuses on materials where strong correlation and/or disorder play a crucial role. This includes investigations into nonequilibrium systems, transition metal oxides, multiferroic systems, glassy systems, and materials prone to phase separation influenced by Coulomb and elastic forces. Additionally, he explores high-temperature and strongly disordered superconductors.
