Curriculum
Aleksandra Jovićević è professoressa ordinaria di discipline dello spettacolo presso il Dipartimento SARAS (Storia Antropologia Religioni Arte Spettacolo), Università La Sapienza di Roma, dal 2007, ed anche Visiting Professor presso l’Università delle arti di Belgrado. Aleksandra Jovićević è stata vice-ministra della cultura (2001-2004) della Repubblica di Serbia e per la sua collaborazione culturale con Italia, ha ricevuto la medaglia di Presidente della Repubblica Italiana, Ordine della stella della solidarietà italiana, con il titolo Commendatore (2005).
Aleksandra Jovićević si è laureata all’Università d’Arte di Belgrado (drammaturgia), e si è addottorata al Dipartimento di Performance Studies a Tisch School of the Arts, di New York University, New York, dove ha ottenuto entrambi MA e PhD, sotto la supervisione di Richard Schechner e Brooks McNamara. La sua tesi di dottorato, Orson Welles and the Theatre, 1946-1960, è stata pubblicata nelle varie riviste e libri internazionali. Durante la sua carriera accademica, Aleksandra Jovićević ha vinto diverse borse di studio e nel 2006/2007 ha ottenuto il Fulbright Visiting Fellowship a Yale University, New Haven, USA.
Professoressa Jovićević insegna storia delle teorie teatrali, ed estetica e politica della performance. Da molti anni, lavora nel campo del teatro di novecento, dell’avanguardia, performance studies, dove ha pubblicato vari libri, articoli e saggi in diverse riviste e libri in serbo, inglese, italiano, tedesco, slovacco, sloveno, olandese, polacco. Ha fondato gli annali della Facoltà dell’arte drammatica di Belgrado, Anthology of Essays by FDA, in 1998, dove adesso è nel comitato redazionale internazionale. Professoressa Jovićević è nel comitato editoriale della rivista accademica, Biblioteca teatrale, (fascia A), dove ha curato (con Annalisa Sacchi) il doppio volume (BT 91/92) nel 2012, dedicato a nuova regia teatrale e le nuove prassi performative. Nel 2021 e 2022, Aleksandra Jovićević ha curato tre volumi di Biblioteca teatrale, dedicati al Dottorato di ricerca in musica e spettacolo del dipartimento SARAS (BT 136, 137, 138). Prof.ssa Jovićević è editore della collana Performance Studies: Estetica e politica della performance per Bulzoni editore, per quale ha curato il libro dii Richard Schechner, Il nuovo terzo mondo di performance studies (2017). Tra le sue ultime pubblicazioni: “Postmodern Antigones: Women in Black and Performance of Involuntary Memory”, in Theatre and Cultural Performances in the Context of Yugoslav Wars, (Palgrave MacMillan, 2019); Orson Welles e il Teatro. Shakespeare e oltre. (Bulzoni editore, 2022); “Aby Warburg's Performed Imageries in the Mnemosyne Atlas: The Unusual Birth of Performance Studies” in Pathografies of Modernity with Aby Warburg and Beyond (Cambridge University Press, 2024); e L’architettura cognitiva dei performance studies (in preparazione, Luca Sossella editore, Roma, 2025).
Aleksandra Jovićević ha tradotto in serbo e curato il libro di Eugenio Barba e Nicola Savarese, Dizionario dell’antropologia teatrale. L’arte segreta dell’attore, Institut FDU, Belgrado, 1997). Durante il bombardamento di Belgrado, dalla NATO (1999), Aleksandra Jovićević traduceva i testi di Biljana Srbljanović, per il quotidiano italiano La Reppublica, che poi sono stati pubblicati nel libro Diario da Belgrado, Baldini & Castoldi, 2000. Dal 1999 al 2001, Aleksandra Jovićević ha scritto una colonna per il quotidiano tedesco, Süddeutsche Zeitung, “Lettere da Belgrado”. Aleksandra Jovićević è stata direttrice dell’Istituto di teatro, cinema, radio e televisione della Facoltà dell’arte drammatica di Belgrado, dal 1997-2000; membro del consiglio consultativo di European Cultural Foundation in Amsterdam, dal 2008-2011; presidente della Dragan Klaić Fellowship Foundation dal 2013-2023; membro del Comitato scientifico della ricerca, dal 2015-2021 “In Praise of Community: Shared Creativity in Arts and Politics in Italy, 1959 to 1979”, coordinato da prof. Annalisa Sacchi (IUAV) e finanziata dall’Unione Europea. Professoressa Jovićević è stata vice coordinatrice del Dottorato di ricerca in musica e spettacolo, La Sapienza, dal 2015 al 2021.
Aleksandra Jovićević is a full Professor of theatre and performance studies at the Department SARAS (History, Anthropology, Religions, Arts, Performance), at La Sapienza University of Rome, since 2007 and a Visiting Professor at the University of Arts in Belgrade. Aleksandra Jovićević was the Deputy Minister of Culture (2001-2004) of the Republic of Serbia and for her cultural cooperation with Italy, she was awarded the medal of the President of the Italian Republic, Order of the Star of Italian Solidarity, with the title Commendatore (2005).
Aleksandra Jovićević graduated at the University of Arts in Belgrade (dramaturgy), and received her doctorate at the Department of Performance Studies at the Tisch School of the Arts, New York University, where she obtained both an MA and a PhD, under the supervision of Richard Schechner and Brooks McNamara. Her doctoral thesis, Orson Welles and the Theatre, 1946-1960, has been published in various international journals and books. During her academic career, Aleksandra Jovićević has won several scholarships and in 2006/2007 she won a Fulbright Visiting Fellowship at Yale University, New Haven, USA.
Professor Jovićević teaches history of theatre theories, and aesthetics and politics of performance. For many years, she has been working in the field of twentieth-century theatre, avant-garde, performance studies, where she has published a number of books, articles and essays in various journals and books in Serbian, English, Italian, Slovak, Slovenian, Dutch, Polish, German. She founded the Annals of the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Belgrade, Anthology of Essays by FDA, in 1998, where she is now in the international editorial board. Professor Jovićević is on the editorial board of the academic journal, Biblioteca teatrale, (A level academic journal), where she edited (with Annalisa Sacchi) the double volume ( BT 91/92) in 2012, dedicated to new theatre direction and new performance practices. In 2021 and 2022, Aleksandra Jovićević edited three volumes of Biblioteca teatrale, dedicated to the PhD in music and performance of the SARAS department ( BT 136, 137, 138). Prof Jovićević is the editor of the series Performance Studies: Aesthetics and Politics of Performance for Bulzoni editore in Rome, for which she edited the book by Richard Schechner, Il nuovo terzo mondo dei performance studies (The New Third World of Performance Studies, 2017). Aleksandra Jovićević translated into Serbian and edited the book by Eugenio Barba and Nicola Savarese , A Dictionary of Theatre Anthropology: The Secret Art of the Performer ( Dizionario dell'antropologia teatrale. L'arte segreta dell'attore, Institut FDU, Belgrade, 1997 ). During the NATO bombardment of Belgrade in 1999, Aleksandra Jovićević translated texts by Biljana Srbljanović for the Italian daily newspaper La Reppublica, texts that were later published as Diary from Belgrade , Baldini & Castold, 2000.. From 1999 to 2001 Aleksandra Jovićević wrote a column for the German daily newspaper, Süddeutsche Zeitung, under the title, “Letters from Belgrade”. Aleksandra Jovićević was the director of the Institute of Theatre, Film, Radio and Television at the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Belgrade, from 1997-2000; member of the advisory board of the European Cultural Foundation in Amsterdam, from 2008-2011; president of the Dragan Klaić Fellowship Foundation from 2013-2023; member of the Scientific Committee of the research, from 2015-2021 “In Praise of Community : Shared Creativity in Arts and Politics in Italy, 1959 to 1979”, coordinated by Prof. Annalisa Sacchi ( IUAV ) and funded by the European Union.
Professor Jovićević was a vice coordinator of the Phd program in Performance and Music from 2015 to 2021.
