Curriculum vitae Prof. Fabio Massimo Gatta
Fabio Massimo Gatta graduated with honors in Electrical Engineering from the University of Rome “La Sapienza” in 1981 and subsequently joined its Department of Electrical Engineering. Over the course of his academic career, he was appointed as a Researcher and, in 1998, became an Associate Professor in the field of Electric Power Systems. He currently teaches several courses at the Faculty of Engineering, including Power Generation Systems, Fundamentals of Power Plants, and Electrical Systems and Plants.
Fabio Massimo Gatta research interests lie in the field of power systems, focusing on the planning, design, and management of transmission, sub-transmission, and distribution systems. Specific areas of expertise include static and dynamic security, long-distance alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC) transmission systems, angular, transient, and dynamic stability, as well as static and transient voltage stability. He also specializes in temporary, switching, and lightning overvoltages, series and shunt compensation, sub-synchronous resonance, distributed generation, smart grids, power plants, medium-voltage/low-voltage (MV/LV) public and industrial distribution networks, unconventional distribution systems (Shield-Wire Schemes), FACTS, HVDC, electric traction, long HV-AC cables, and hybrid aerial cable systems. He has provided consultancy services in several countries, including Turkey, Ghana, Brazil, Russia, Laos, Ethiopia, Georgia, and many others across Africa and Asia. Over the years, he has also worked with prominent engineering firms and organizations such as Terna, Enel, e-distribuzione, CESI, and Alstom Transport System in Italy, as well as SWECO International, SONELGAZ, and others abroad. For over 10 years, he has been providing consultancy services specifically for Terna and e-distribuzione, focusing on network security, smart grids, and innovative energy transmission technologies. He has also contributed to several Italian and European University research projects. He has made significant contributions to the academic community, authoring or co-authoring over 150 scientific articles presented at international conferences or published in peer-reviewed journals.
