RESEARCH
RESEARCH TOPICS
I’m interested in study Earthquakes, fault mechanics, and physical properties of rocks. In particular my PhD thesis was focused on the mechanical properties of the Triassic Evaporites and their relation to crustal scale data. In particular I studied the evolution of the physical properties (e.g. permeability, crack density, seismic velocities) during the seismic cycle. Now I’m studying CO2 underground storage possibilities using a multidisciplinary approach that involves laboratory field and subsurface data, focusing on the role played by Evaporites and Evaporites-bearing faults in fluids trapping and transportation.

I am reviewer for the journals: International Journal of Earth Sciences, Tectonophysics, Terra Nova, Journal of the Geological Society of London, Solid Earth, Journal of Structural Geology, Earth Science Reviews, Petroleum Science.

TECHNIQUES
I have experience in:
Field Mapping
Running uniaxial compression experiments experiments.
Performing permeability and ultrasonic wave velocity measurements at elevated
confining pressures using a hydrostatic pressure vessel or ‘permeameter’.
Performing benchtop ultrasonic wave velocity anisotropy analysis and anisotropy of magnetic susceptibility (AMS) measurements.
Microcrack density analysis using optical microscopy and feSEM.
Rock sample preparation including coring, grinding and sawing apparatus.
Programming with Matlab and Visual Basic

SOFTWARES
I’m very good in using software in general and in particular I am very skilful in using:
Matlab, Visual Basic, GMT
Office (in particular Excel and Word)
Adobe Illustrator, Corel Draw

STUDY AREAS
Italy; in particular Northern Apennines, Umbria, Tuscany and Puglia
Taiwan
Turkey
Iran (Zagros)
Mars
