Curriculum
Maria Ida Amabile received her M.D. cum laude in 2005 at Sapienza University of Rome, Italy, and she concluded cum laude in 2011 her residency/fellowship (“specialist”) in General Surgery. In 2013 she received a Research Fellowship in the field of breast cancer surgery and oncoplastic and reconstructive breast surgery at Institut Gustave Roussy – Cancer Campus, France.
In 2015 she received her Ph.D. in Advanced Technologies in Surgery at Sapienza University of Rome.
In September 2015 she obtained the Inter-University Diplome (D.I.U.) of Surgical Senologic, Oncologic and Reconstructive Techniques (Experience in breast oncology surgery, deepening the techniques of breast cancer surgery and the indications and techniques of reconstructive surgery) at Institut Gustave Roussy Cancer Campus and Paris Sud University, France.
She was post-doctoral research fellow (2015-2018) and Assistant Professor of General Surgery at Sapienza University of Rome from 2018 to 2023.
Since 2023 she is Associate Professor of General Surgery at Sapienza University of Rome.
Prof. Amabile is Member of the Committee “Commissione Paritetica Docenti-Studenti (CPDS)”, Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, Sapienza University of Rome.
Since 2014 she has participated to several Research Projects granted by Sapienza University intramural research program. In the 2017 she received the grant awarded by the "Enrico and Enrica Sovena Foundation" for the Research Project entitled “Sarcopenia in chirurgia oncologica: impatto delle modificazioni metaboliche e strutturali del muscolo sulla prognosi dei pazienti sottoposti a chirurgia addominale”.
By these grants, publications in peer-reviewed journals were obtained.
Recent Clinical Trial Experience (2017-2023): - Targeted nutritional intervention in Lung Cancer patients: randomized controlled trial (ANAM-17-20); - Characterising SARcopenia and sarcopenic obesity in patients Aged 65 years and over, at risk of mobility disability: OBServational Clinical Trial (SARA-OBS).
Prof. Amabile partecipates to the "Quality Control in Breast Centers Project” promoted by the Association Senonetwork Italia Onlus - The network of Italian breast care centers. The purpose of this project is to ensure the quality of breast cancer treatment in Italy and to contribute to the creation of a national Datawarehouse (SENONET) for evaluation, auditing and scientific production purposes.
Recently she has been granted for the project entitled “Assessment of a signature profile of pro-resolving lipid mediators in women with breast cancer”.
In summary, Prof. Maria Ida Amabile is conducting research activity in the field of: breast cancer and breast cancer surgery, in particular breast oncoplastic surgery and breast reconstructive surgery; metabolic-nutritional derangements in breast cancer patients and breast cancer surgery, in particular related to obesity and insulin-resistance; sarcopenia in oncological surgery to assess the impact of metabolic changes e muscle mass derangements on the prognosis of patients undergoing breast surgery. In particular, to examine the expression profiles of muscle-specific microRNAs in breast cancer patients and to evaluate their correlation with muscle mass and function and with post-operative complications.
