Curriculum
Enzo Baccarelli received the Electronics Engineering degree (laurea) ''cum Laude'' from Sapienza University in 1989 and then acquired the PhD degree and Post-PhD degree in Information and Communication Engineering in 1993 and 1995, respectively. He was Assistant Professor (1996- 1998) and then Associate Professor (1998-2004) at the INFOCOM Dpt. of Sapienza University. Since 2004, he is full professor in Telecommunication Engineering at the DIET Dpt. of Sapienza University. He spent 1994 and 1996 as visiting research at the Telcordia Labs of Morristown (USA). His research interests mainly focus on the areas of design of broadband networked distributed architectures for the QoS support of Machine Learning models and related Middleware communication protocols. This research activity produced over 250 papers published by peer-referred IEEE international journals and conferences.
Regarding the activity of governance, Enzo Baccarelli was dean of the Telecommunication Board and, then, member of the Educational Board of Sapienza University and dean of the Educational Board of the I3S Faculty. Furthermore, he was superintendent of the Rector for the policy for support of the social integration of the students with handicap and dean of the corresponding steering Board.
Regarding the activity as member of evaluation panels, at national level Enzo Baccarelli was involved in the Technical Board of Telecom Italia and was member of some evaluation sub-panels designed by MIUR under the CIVR and PRIN initiatives for the aero-space sciences and Industrial Information Engineering Areas. Enzo Baccarelli was also involved in the work of the ASN2021 national commission for the 09/F2 sector.
Regarding the editorial activity, Enzo Baccarelli was an Associate Editor of IEEE Communication Letters for the Wireless Networking area.
Regarding the activity of coordination and management of research projects, Enzo Baccarelli was the Principal Investigator of the PRIN2005 project WOMEN (2006-2007) and the PRIN2007 project WORLD (2007-2009). Furthermore, he participated to the PRIN2015 GAUChO project (2017- 2020). He was also involved in the management activities of several other European and National research projects, namely: (i) scientific coordinator of the research unit of Rome for the national project NEWINTERNET (2004-2007); (ii) scientific coordinator of the following projects funded by Sapienza University: PRIMA ALBA (2005-2006), IRON (2007-2009), WISENET (2010-2011), WISENET2 (2011-2012), V-Fog (2016-2017), SoFT (2018-
2019), DeepFog (2020-2021) and Flying Fog (2022-2023); and, (iii) responsible of sub-contracts under the European projects: IST-DELIS (2004-2006), FP7-STREP “Smart hoMes for All-SM4All” (2007-2009), and FP7-STREP “Greener Buildings” (2010-2012).
Enzo Baccarelli was included in the lists of the top 2% worldwide scientists compiled by Stanford University in 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024.
Lastly, in 2024, Enzo Baccarelli received the Outstanding Scientist Award by ScienceFather for his research activity on Fog Computing.
