C. Scientific activity
Dr. Esposito scientific interests are addressed to the comprehension of the role of the reactive gliosis and neuroinflammatory processes both in the central and in the enteric nervous system. He is also involved in the characterization of the role of glia neuron interplay during neuropathological disorders and pharmacological approaches to neurodegenerative diseases in the so-called gut-brain axis by ALIAmides and cannabinoids.
In the last years, he has been mainly involved in gastrointestinal pharmacology and he is author of almost 80 articles published in international peer review journals. Dr. Esposito has been awarded with Benedicenti's Prize in 2008 as the most productive under-40 years old Italian pharmacologist, and received NASS prize 2012 for his research in the field of enteric glia transplantation. Dr. Esposito cooperates with several Italian as well as UE, USA and China scientific research groups and is permanent member of editoral board of international peer review pharmacology journals, as Phytother. Res and associate editor for Frontiers in pharmacology (gastrointestinal session).
