This couse consists of two units: the former is mainly concerned with the economic rationale at the basis of the current debate on environmental damage; the latter centering around the management of production and its policy implications.
In particular, the former unit will provide students with a sound knowledge and understanding of the major results of environmental economics along a microeconomic perspective. Also, they will be able to apply the fundamentals of rigorous microeconomic analysis to environmental problems.

Educational objectives The general objective of this course is to provide the student with knowledge and assessment tools on the issues of estimating and managing financial risks by banks both from a micro and macroeconomic perspective. The active management strategies for financial portfolios and the passive portfolio management techniques based on the principle of diversification are discussed in depth. This is followed by the analysis of international developments concerning the regulation and supervision on the banking system for reducing the probability and the costs of future financial crises. Finally, particular attention is given to the issue of the instability of the global financial system, to the models for estimating systemic risk and to the policy choices from the regulatory authorities for managing it.
Specific objectives of this course are:
1) the in-depth knowledge of the analytical and graphical tools used in the fundamental analysis of the securities and in the general equilibrium models of the capital market, as well as of the empirical tests on the validity of these models;
2) the ability to understand financial data and fundamental statistics of financial portfolios in terms of risk, return and performance of securities portfolios;
2) the application of the financial methodologies to the evaluation of securities, investment choices and portfolio management;
3) the ability to communicate what has been learned through the use of a technical-specialist financial language;
4) the critical and judgmental capacity regarding the policy choices made by the regulatory authorities in terms of global financial stability;

Educational objectives The course aims at illustrating the fundamental features of European social law and at describing the “communitarization” process of national labour law systems that has taken place during the last decades. Students will be enabled to verify the concrete impact of European Union rules on Member States, referring primarily to the Court of Justice’s case law.
Students will be requested to know the fundamental contents of E.U. Labor Law sources and their concrete impact on Member States’ judicial systems, as well as to acquire a correct legal vocabulary.
Students will be also requested to acquire the ability to communicate what they had learnedthrough the participation in seminars or workshops in which documents, judicial decisions and practical cases will be critically discussed.

Educational objectives Knowledge and understanding: Students will learn the main advanced tools to analyzing macroeconomic phenomena such as: cyclical fluctuations, the role of monetary and fiscal policy in a closed economy, the role of financial markets, the modus operandi of the European institutions and of the ECB, with special focus on the recent global crises.
Applying knowledge and understanding: Students will be able to recognise the main interdependencies between economic and monetary variables, both at the microeconomic level, as well as at the macroeconomic one, apply macro models to formulate rigorous reasoning on different macro issues, understand the content of articles and documents related to macroeconomic issues.
Making judgments: Students are expected to be able to critically analyze the effect of different shocks on both the domestic economy and the global economy. They are also able to evaluate the role of the key economic actors and the effects of policy actions in different economic scenarios.
Communication Skills: Students will be able to describe economic and financial problems analytically, with the opportunity to refer to the scientific literature proposed in the course.

Educational objectives The main objective of this course is twofold. First, learning more formal versions of the most important theories in international trade and in the international movement of production factors. Second, interpreting causes and consequences of global financial imbalances. Homework assignments imply that the students apply advanced methodologies. Duringthe class period students present solutions of the homework assignments and develop comunication skills.
Part of the course focuses on definitions and statistics of international migrations and remittances. The student will acquire skills in data analysis in order to link the phenomenon of international migrations with socio-economic development. Some homework assignments involve knowledge and application of statistical tools that will be useful for other classes and in future occupations.
